Need Help ASAP. Backfired then the engine shut off. Now it fails to start.
Well, I was about to get onto the highway and it backfired. After it backfired the engine shut off and now it won't start. I don't know if this is an unrelated problem but I just noticed the starter is loose. I tried starting with the starter being held in place and it still won't start.
I'm guessing I'm either not getting fuel, spark or both.
Help me out Honda-Tech it sitting on the side of the on ramp until I can get it towed.
Thanks in advance.

Re: (Tizight)
hard to say i would have to say timing belt jumped if it just stopped running and wont start, and the starter thing i would have to say isnt part of it. i would take the timing cover off and check to make sure everything is lined up

Re: (Tizight)
thats where you need to start before you start cranking and what not to see if it has spark, cause if its the timeing belt and you keep cranking it will just do more damage
one quick question, does the motor turn over faster or different than normally?

So it's cranking and will not start?
Can you hear the fuel pump priming?
Check to see if your getting spark.. (hold the plug wire next to a bolt and let someone crank it.. if u see spark your getting spark)
I had a similar situation on a road trip.. My car backfired and shut down.. no spark.. just cranking..
Diagnosed it down the the ignitor in the distributor (ICM)..
My guess would be either your ignitor or ignition coil took a dump on you..
But check your timing also.

Re: (Jimmy)
Compression, spark, fuel, air... its gotta be one.
Air is usually a given.
As been said, do you hear your fuel pump prime?
Do you have spark? If not check your distributor (my ignitor went out on mine, was a pain in the *** to diagnose)
Do you have compression, check your timing belt first, if its ok then go on to acompression check
