Default Ls/Vtec conversion ????'s

Hi guys! I just ordered a B16a Vtec cylinder head for my '93 Ls b18a1 block. Now I like to know what's the best combination for this, like what manifold intake should I put on like B20,B18c. What's the best ECU to get for it? and what hardness should I get, one from a B16a or other?? right now I have the B18a1 with 1.7Gsr cable tranny wit hyd conversion on a '92 Civic hatch. thanks for your help!!

nice research you did before buying that head. With the amount of money you spend, in the end you were better off just getting a complete GSR swap. Get ready for the headaches..

I don't agree. I think a well done LS/VTEC produce much more power than a GS-R set up, and can be done for less money too.
You are right about the headaches though. I say this because not everyone knows enough to do this conversion properly, but everyone thinks they do... you have to figure out which one of the two people your mechanic is.
Sorry to say, but I'm not much of a mech myself, so I can't really offer much advice on the actual build. Good luck though!

Yeah I always hear that Ls Vtec has more power than Gsr engines that's why I'm doing it, plus I did research and according to it I found that the B16a head is among the best and easiest ones for Ls Vtec. About The headaches I guess I'll find out myself but if well done I shouldn't have any issues, at least not much.

Hey I did go to archived content and it seems like there's mixed opinions about it, alot of the feed back were said that people prefer Ls turbo over Ls vtec, but I wanna do Ls/Vtec anyway and later make it Ls/Vtec Turbo.. thanks for the info by the way!!

Don't listen to them haters about ls/vtecs. It's a great motor. Fully built one myself. Turbo goes on next month. With the manifold and stuff you gotta figure out what your looking for. I mean they got skunk 2 and blox and all that. Your going to have to get a chipped p28 if you upgrade your internals. Examples= higher compression and what not but if you keep it close to stock compression. I think it should be fine. Not to sure on that though. I just chipped mine. Good luck

Yeah they haters alright! But for now I'm keeping it stock and will be upgrading the internals little by little. I have mixed emotions about getting what ever ECU I get for it chipped because I think its always better to go wit an aftermarket ECU like Microtech for it to be tunned the right way, but then again Microtech=$800 dollars and Stock ECU=$150 dollars so there's a big difference in price...

LS/Vtec is as reliable as any other setup out there if it's built correctly using quality parts and having quality work done.

There is a teriffic thread in the all motor forum called "How to build a reliable LS/Vtec" It's 57 pages, I suggest starting there.
