maint' req light?
on the FAR passenger side of your car, there is a plug with a green cover on the underside of the dash...like i said tho, far side. In that cover, if yours still has the cover...they may already be out of the cover, there is 2 little square outlets close to a half inch wide, 1 of the outlets has two wires, the other outlet has 3 wires. the outlet with two wires you need to wire together by sticking a single wire into both of the holes in the plug....this will allow for the check engine light to flash a engine code to you.
this is assuming your car is an obd1 which is prior to i think 98 and after 90

The main req light is just a light that goes on after a certain amount of miles to notify you it is time for you periodic required maintenance at the dealer. It has nothing to do with a CEL because a CEL is something entirely on it own.
Under the dash on the drivers side you will have a small box with a square button on it. Hold that button down then roll the key to the ON position and hold (the button) for 5-10 seconds. Release the button and turn key off. When you start the car back up it should be off.
OBD1 is 1992-1995

It's an oil change light to tell you when you need your oil changed. Interval is 7500mi.
To reset it there is a green button right above where your right knee would sit while you are driving. Hold that button and turn the key to II until it goes off.
Next time search first please. The only reason why I answered this is because everyone else is wrong.
