GS-R Check Engine Light. Code 22?
Ok, so I'm going around a cloverleaf at about 65 or so in the Teg and all of the sudden my car makes a nice little pop sound (not too loud), dies for about half a second, and continues on its way. Unfortunately, after all this occured, my Check Engine Light came on. The code came up as what I believe to be 22. (Two long lights, then two short flashes.) I looked around and it seems that that would be for "VTEC Pressure Switch"...? So I guess what does fixing that require? I know that I could have possibly dried my pump from going around the corner like that, so I'm kind of wondering what something like that would have caused? The car runs as regular, VTEC still kicks after 5300 RPM, and no noticable loss in power, but at the same time I'm not going all out on it trying to find out either. So any suggestions? Thank you very much.
how many miles on ur gsr? is oil level normal. could be internal failure of switch. screen could be clogged as well. r u sure ur vtec is engaging or r u hearing ur secondary "butterflies" opening when at that rpm.
Just hit 100,000 miles on it. Oil was very very low, probably 1 quart or so. Last time I listen to Jiffy Lube... I went Full Synthetic and they said I could go at least 5,000 miles, and now that I check about 4,800 later I'm pretty dry. So anyways, yea, it was low, but I just changed it so that's taken care of, but the light is still on. How would I go about unclogging the screen? And yea, VTEC isn't engaging, it's the butterflies opening. Sorry about that confusion. Thanks again.

U need to clear code, sometimes ecu will not react to repairs or adjustments unless its taken out of limp mode which is check engine light on. it reverts to basic settings to just allow u to drive it until fixed. do this b4 trying to unclogg vtec solenoid screen. if u still have prob's after clearing code, i will send u a link on how to remove solenoid and insp. it for problems.

Interesting I stumbled upon this as tonight this exact same thing happened to me. Going down-slope, around a corner and a pop occurred when I was just entering vtec. Check engine light comes on right after. I checked my oil and it was a bit lower than I thought. The bad thing though is that when I opened the oil-cap when the engine was on, I felt hot air pushing outwards. So serious blow-by? Did a piston ring fail or worse? It's an '00 GS-R and I just hit 70k miles.

no, thats normal to have it push out like that, if u are really worried about it. try a engine compression test? let me know what u come up with.

I did a compression test yesterday and got 235psi on all 4 cylinders. Someone told me on another forum that 270psi is the optimal and 140psi being the minimum.
If it's normal to be pushing out air like that, I have to find out why I'm burning so much oil. Last oil change I got 2 quarts, and just as I was about to do an oil change this coming weekend it was almost empty.

Yeah, my friends vtec CEL 21 finally came on after running 2 quarts low after taking his car to WAL MART for an oil change, where they left his drain plug loose.
