Engine feels slow after VTEC.
Well I know that after VTEC engages the secondaries usually open up and you can really hear and feel the engine flow. This for some reason isn't happening anymore, so my car feels slow. Then around 6500 and again at 7500 it feels like it opens up for a brief second then goes back to feeling slow again. It feels like it just takes forever sometimes to get to redline. Anyone have any ideas of what is going on?
I have a 96 GSR with I/H/E and a V-AFC (untuned untill I put my cams in). All settings on the V-AFC are set at default except for the initialization settings and VTEC is set at 4400. The VAFC is showing that VTEC is engaging at the proper rpm. Any suggestions would be very help full. Thanks.

any CEL codes? Did this happen right after the V-AFC install? or this started out of no where? Have you checked your oil level?

After the VAFC was installed everything work OK. It slowly started to happen. I would notice that it wouldn't open up untill 5800 or so when normally it would around 5000. Then sometimes it would open up and other times it wouldn't. And now it doesn't open up at all.
I know I need a valve adjustment but would it really effect my engine this way?
I will check a few other things when I get off of work today.

you just need to get tuned.
doublecheck all your Vtec settings are correct.
you may also try reseting your ECU (pull negative terminal on battery for 5 minutes).

check your VAFC wiring too, make sure you got solid connections.

are you sure vtec is even engaging? monitor VTo cause thats when the VAFC activates vtec to the solenoid. Make sure you didnt mix up the vtm and vtec wires. And make sure you did wire up the VTM wire. Untuned the VAFC should not make a difference. It'll act as if it isnt there.

Re: Engine feels slow after VTEC. (.xcalibur.)
According to the Vto and Vti, VTEC is engaging. It just feels as if the secondaries in the intake manifold are not opening up.
One thing I did notice when monitoring is that the intake pressure wouldn't go down to zero at WOT. It would only go down to 122 or so. Isn't it supposed to go to 0?

I reset the ecu and it still does the same thing. All of my connections for the VAFC are soldered(if thats how you spell it).

aside from maintenance issues it could just be you getting used to it or the weather or bad gas, etc.
I would get it tuned and see what that reveals.

Do you have oil...? I know it sounds stupid but VTEC engagment will be affected by low oil pressure, and lack of oil... Check that out and see if it helps...

Well, it was the oil level. I now have the cams in and the valves are adjusted. Still don't know why my Intake Manifold pressure only goes to -133 mmHg.

Also I tested the compression. Before I installed the 01 Type R cams it was 170,170,160,170.
After the cams went in it was 150,150,155,150. Is it normal to change after new cams have been installed? Only thing I can think of is more duration on the cams?

everytime you test your compression you will get a different reading. each guage is different. the main thing is that you stay consistent across the board.
