Cutting Valve Cover for cam gears
I have a set of cam gears and cams that i will be putting in this winter, but i'd like to see/hear any suggestions on how to cut the cover near the cam gears so i can tune them. anyone have some digital pics of that? Thanks
if you got one of those air powered impact wrenches, you can get a real abrasive wheel that will cut through that no problem, even a machine shop could do this...should be cheap
When I got my red valve cover I cut my black one with a hack saw. I used a ruler and drew a line then I slowly cut the valve cover. The saw was only $10 at the hardware store and it took about 15 mins.
dont cut it???!?!? you know they charge you hourly on dyno's! ok, lets make a run, take off valve cover, adjust, put cover back on, make run, take cover off..etc etc etc. i used a recipricating saw on mine. i traced 2 circles slightly smaller then my cam gears so the valve cover still covers the belt. came out good. just go slow.

What kind of gain did you make with the 404 crower cams? I am looking at cams and think I am going to give the 404's a try, but I was wondering how the idle was. Is it REALLY rough and lope(?) like a v8? Thanks
I cut mine with a large band saw I have a work I left the part to cover the top the timing belt used a scribe to mark the line and cut it off and finished it off by using a large belt sander too smooth the edges worked great
Ive seen a few cars that had the cover cut slightly smaller than the cam gears and it looked really nice. Way better than just hacking off that whole section.
when i've seen shops do it they usually have one of those saws with a huge band saw's.
I like the 2 circle look my self.
Why cut the valve cover???? come on everybody knows the awnser to that!!! Weight Reduction Baby

I dont like cutting valve covers just because it doesnt look good. I rather prefer the sleeper look and also, I feel much safer if something was covering the cam gears from anything that might drop into the timing belt cavity. If I were you, I would just ask a shop if they already have a valve cover cut already and just put it on for just to dyno. After you are done, just put back your old one. I do that instead of cutting my valve cover. Once you cut it, you cant go back.
