Could it be?
So yeah it was pretty embarassing earlier in front of the traffic. I was ready to make a left. Light turned green and i get on the clutch but my shifter wouldn't go to 1st gear. It took me 5 tries to get onto 1st gear. This was so embarassing as it was the 1st time it happened to me. Could this be my transmission? I have a new shift linkage and bushings and a brand new clutch so its none of those.

If it has a new clutch then it should have fresh fluid. However if the OP filled the fluid with only the front end lifted on jack stands, then that will give a false full reading and will actually be too low.

so, for those of us who don't have a lift, what is the best method for topping off your tranny case?
I used a funnel with a "straw". You can buy them at autozone this way. I had a buddy feed me the straw and I stuck it into the the hole and lowered the jack. Pretty simple.
You could always fill it up from your VSS area also. (remove VSS)
It'll be alot easier with that straw funnel.
Also always re-adjust your clutch pedal after changing the clutch.
You can easily warp your clutch disc and flywheel if it's not in spec.

Use 4 jack stands or fill it thru the VSS hole w/ the car sitting on the ground (I use the VSS hole regardless).
The first time I changed my clutch years ago and filled the tranny with only the front end in the air, I realized what I had done. When I topped it off with the car level, almost another 1/2 quart went into the case before starting to drip out the filler hole.
haha, damn... i just use one of those funnels w/ the ~2ft flexible hose. i remove the intake, i pull the trans fill plug, bend the hose into the hole, and its easy could be.
to the OP, i'suggest visually inspecting the linkage. make sure that the bitch pin (spring pin that connects the linkage to the trans, theres a bolt/nut on one linkage bar, and the bitch pin in the other bar). make sure that pin is there, and not just a loose bolt or somethin. also, possibly the bolt going through the linkage at the bottom of the shifter is too tight or something. or could be low clutch fluid or air in the line (i don't know if any of this was disconnected when the clutch job was done. either way, i'd take it to whoever just worked on the clutch fo sho
maybe use gm synchromesh fluid in the tranny. just go to any gm/chevy dealer and ask for 3 qts of part # 12345349. it'll be about 13 bucks a quart, but its the only good thing gm ever did
