i have a 99 gsr and im either throwing a 9 or 90. Im pretty sure its not a code 9 because my car is running perfectly fine and not im limp mode so im guessing its most likely 90 which is Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected. i just changed my gas cap and the light went away for about 45 miles of driving and it just came on again. im thinking about changing the vacum hoses for the charcoal canister but besides that what else can i look for? and how serious is this problem? could it cause any major damage in the future? TIA.

how long have you been running with this code? you notice any other problems? it also seems like the light only comes back on when i get below half tank? bump!

probably 2 weeks now. Ill try and change the gas cap. see if that works. Also im gonna reset the ECU and see if it does come back when the tank is at half.

type-G, if that doesnt work try changing all of the vacum hoses connecting to the vapor canister and try cleaning out the vapor purge valve on the top of the canister with some qd electrical contact cleaner. im going to try this today hoefully it works

i changed both vacum hoses 1. from the canister to the steel ahrds line 2. from the canister to the valve on the IM, and also cleaned out the canister purge valve. and still no go. im going to try to test the purge valve next and if its not a bad purge valve i need to check the fuel tank area =\

it hasnt came back on for a while b/c i unplugged my battery. i put it on a obd2 tester instead of just jumping the ecu w/ a paperclip and the tester told me to replace the fuel cap..which i already did..so idk what else to do?
damnnnit. right when my fuel tank hit half, it came back on! checked the ecu to see what code it was just to make sure and it was a 90. what else should i do? im gonnta reset it again, fill the tank to full then see if it comes back right at half tank.
