Re: ATTN all B18A/B!!! (93B18)
Ok, I know there is a girdle on the GSR and Type R motors to keep the crank from unwanted vibrations in the high rpm range say 7000-8400 rpms. But why didn't Honda put a girdle on the B16 and B17A motors since they rev to 8100-8200 rpms redline. Wouldn't it make sense to put a girdle on these motors as well?? I've seen B16s and B17s revving up to 8500-9000 rpms on a regular basis, have pretty high mileage and still run great (no spun bearings)?? Maybe b/c of the better R/S ratio but still would make sense to put a girdle on these motors??
Better safe than sorry...

As you know, the optimum R/S ratio is 1.75:1

The girdle is worth it but when you have to wait a month for the parts, you may just not have time... like me. (gotta go back to school).

I have wondered about that...is that the best for safety or is that the best compromise? The higher the radio..the better for the engine I believe..however torque is sacraficed. The Civic Type R in Japan has a rod/stroke ratio os 1.82:1.
It isn't necessary better having a higher r/s ratio. Having a good r/s ratio allows to rev high. It also means that there is less stress on your components when revving high. There's no point revving if there's no power to be made. So r/s ratio is not important for turbo or high-torque cars. Cars like CTR has little torque, they need to rev high to make its power.
As I was told, there are 2 ways of achieving both hp and tq throughout the whole rpm range, it is either increasing displacement or increasing compression.

it is either increasing displacement or increasing compression
Do you know a general rule of thumb for the power gained when increasing the compression? When I eventually rebuild my bottom end..I would like to raise the compression from 9.6:1 to roughly 11.5:1...so a 2 point increase.
Hey..and read your private messages! I need info!

Re: ATTN all B18A/B!!! (Project X)
Do you guys know if there is any difference between the LS bearings and GSR bearings?? If I plan to rev to 8500 rpm at the track (3 or 4 times a year) and up to 7800 rpms every now and then on the street (3 or 4 times a week) then would this girdle package really be necessary? Or can I just run safely with the mods I already have now:
LSVTEC B18A/B17A combo
new bearings
fully rebuilt motor (new gaskets, o-rings, belts, machine work bored honed etc)
Endyn 11.3:1 pistons, Eagle rods
VTEC oil pump, pu unit, oil pan
ITR valvetrain
CTR cams
etc, etc, etc.
TIA for your reply.

the B18B and B18C bearings are the same.......as long as there new there shouldent be a problem but at speeds over 7500rpm for pro-longed periods of time will cause them to wear out faster than normal........when i get my digital camera next week i will take some pics of what my B18B bearings looked like when they came out of my engine.......not to pretty..........

I've already order it myself and I wll be using the same pistons and rods. For me, a stronger block means a lasting block. When I'm racing, I'm not thinking of breaking parts, I'm thinking of trying to win.

Re: ATTN all B18A/B!!! (HX_Guy)
so.... when you add a z10 girdle with a full built bottom end, do you think you will have a problem reving to 8500 on a regular basis... of course it would be ls/vtec and high compression with a built head...
i have been contemplating the z10 girdle... i think if the z10 is used with the proper parts, you can have a very reliable R eater...

Re: ATTN all B18A/B!!! (slvrTeg)
can you use a gsr girdle on the ls block?
Is ther any type of bearing that can sustain high rpms for long periods of time? Any made by Honda or aftermarket?
