Default Advancing timing

Have you guys had good or bad luck with advacning your timing. I've been reading not to go past 18*. What is it set at stock?
And where is the how to, I can't find it anywhere.

You need a socket and ratchet, timing light, and jumper wire for the diagnostic connector.

Spec for a GS-R is 16 +/- 2 deg. BTDC, so anywhere from 14-18 deg. I keep mine at 18.

I have a SE. I have all the tools, no big deal there. Where is the write up?
