2018 FK8 Civic Type R for sale was bought brand new by Formula One two-time World Champion Max Verstappen. Now, it could be yours!

When you think about Formula One drivers and their personal cars, you’d often assume they drive some hardcore sports cars and supercars. However, that’s not always the case. While many F1 drivers do have a fleet of Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and so on,  many also have “everyman” cars. For example, Max Verstappen got his 2018 Civic Type R new back in 2018. After his championship win in 2021, he sold it for charity. Recently, it sold again!

The owner of Max Verstappen’s Civic Type R recently listed it for sale on Catawiki, an auction website. Though expert estimates put the final sales price between 50,000 and 60,000 euros, it wound up bringing it a whopping 75,000 instead! For those curious, that’s about $80,000 on our side of the pond. Let’s see what the monumental winning bid got its new Slovakian owner!

Max Verstappen Signed the Type R Before Selling It

This 2018 Civic Type R GT is loaded out with all sorts of features, as one might expect. Virtually every single option available is on this thing. Carscoops points out that it’s loaded tip to tail both inside and out with carbon fiber parts. In addition, it’s got the sports exhaust, adaptive cruise control, and headlight washers!

Perhaps most enticing to hardcore F1 fans, though, is the fact that Verstappen put his signature and his name in print on the dashboard before it was auctioned off for charity. In addition, a handful of documents linking Verstappen to the car are included in the sale. These documents include things like insurance paperwork in Verstappen’s name in Monaco.

The Type R only has 36,350 miles. When Verstappen first sold it for Charity, it had 36,039 miles on the clock. So, the second owner managed to only put around 300 miles on it during his one year of ownership. Likely, the next owner will not rack up a ton of miles, either. It’s a bit of a collector’s item!

Could You Fight the Urge?

Of course, it’d be hard not to let loose the 316 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque courtesy of the turbocharged K-series engine under the hood. There’s no shortage of documentation and experiences showing how phenomenal the FK8 Type R is to drive. Couple that with the signature of an F1 champion on the dash, and knowing his hands have gripped the same steering wheel yours are on would make it quite difficult not to take this for the occasional spirited drive.

Above all else, we hope the new owner of Verstappen’s Type R loves it! Of course, we’ll always advocate for cars getting driven instead of just sitting. However, if that’s what the new owner decides to do with it, we’ll begrudgingly stand by. We can’t do anything about it anyway! Still, it’s awesome to get to see these photos and check the car out!
