Don’t Try This At Home: CRX Turned Skateboard

The rise and fall of the world’s first Honda skateboard.

What do you do on those rare occasions when your mega-reliable, unkillable, 30-year-old Honda breaks down? Do you attempt a roadside repair? Do you call AAA? Or, do you attempt to noncommittally ghostride the whip, riding your doomed CRX down a hill like an ungainly orange skateboard?

As hilarious as this is, don’t be as stupid as this idiot.

YouTuber Walnut Pancakes filmed a video of himself, in that exact situation, presented with those same choices. Seeing as the video was filmed in portrait mode instead of landscape, you should have a good idea of what happens next. A person’s choice of cell phone camera angle is, in our experience, a solid indication of their mental aptitude.

With the driver’s door open, Mr. Pancakes uses his foot to push off the ground, attempting to, in his words, “skateboard down this hill.” Everything starts out fine, as it often does. The slight incline of the road means that momentum builds quickly. He hops back in the car, door still ajar, standing on the door sill.

It’s not long, however, before our lovable loser realizes his folly – he has no brakes. “Oh, shoot. This is actually…very dangerous.” A string of profanities follows as Walnut contemplates his life, flashing before his very eyes.

Frantically sawing the wheel in a desperate attempt to negotiate a corner, he fails, and is ejected from the car as it slams violently into a ditch. Miraculously, Walnut Pancakes is unharmed, but the same cannot be said about his poor orange CRX…Or his Busch Light, cans scatter on the road shoulder like so many broken dreams.

We spy a mangled front end, door, and driver’s seat, which appears to be ripped out of the floorpan. It’s pretty clear that this Honda won’t be practicing more ollies any time soon.
