2022 Honda Civic Si full reveal on Motor Traden

2022 Civic Si full reveal shows all its previously hidden curves and lines alongside its power figures and cool tech from the Type R.

We recently brought you a story of a camouflaged 2022 Honda Civic Si blitzing around Thunderhill Raceway in preparation for the 25 hours of Thunderhill race. However, that only offers an obscure look at the racing trim Si. It doesn’t give any insight as to what to expect of the production model. The waiting is finally over, though. Now we have the details you want for the all-new 2022 Honda Civic Si. As we assumed from the get-go, it is pretty awesome.

All these details come courtesy of a recent Motor Trend release where they got a first look at the phenomenal 2022 Civic Si. Let’s dig in. Naturally, we’ll start with the first thing most people want to know—the numbers.

2022 Honda Civic Si Turbocharged 1.5-liter Engine

Give Us Those Sweet Numbers!

We’ll start with the number you’re likely already familiar with; four. That’s how many doors the Si comes with. Unfortunately, there is no coupe option.

However, there are some new numbers you’re probably unfamiliar with. Let’s dive in.

The engine under the hood of the 2022 Civic Si remains an L-series 1.5-liter turbocharged lump. It makes a very respectable 200 horsepower at 6,000 RPM. However, the most exciting development on the new Si comes in the form of torque. The 2022 Civic Si has a peak torque value of 192 pound-feet like its predecessor. However, the torque comes in 300 RPM sooner at a remarkably low 1,800 RPM. If that doesn’t excite you, maybe the fact that the torque band lasts from 1,800 RPM to 5,000 RPM will.

The engine sends power through the same six-speed manual transmission as the previous generation. However, Honda Engineers have shortened the gear throws even more. Additionally, the 2022 Civic Si is equipped with a helical limited-slip differential to ensure power gets to the ground with adequate grip.

As always, the Civic Si is front-wheel-drive only. Also, like previous generations of the Civic Si, no automatic transmission is available.

One interesting thing about manually selecting the gears is the integration of the automatic rev-matching system found on the beloved FK8 Honda Civic Type R. This system automatically builds the revs to where you’d need it to be for a downshift. However, the system can be turned off if drivers do not want the assistance it offers.

Another bit of borrowed tech from the Type R is switchable drive modes with a customizable selection. So, drivers can set their individual drive mode to suit their preferences. Adjustable variables are throttle response, steering weight, and instrument panel graphics. If none of the factory drive modes suit your style, you can develop your own!

Looks Good From Here!

The new Civic Si looks like it meets all of our expectations and then some. Lowering the torque peak and broadening the power band is an excellent ingredient for making those tight and windy roads a joy to drive on. This is especially true with an adjustable steering feel and a limited-slip diff. While we don’t know the price point as of now, we can only imagine it will be worth it, and we can’t wait to drive one!
