clutch damage
Its never happened to me b4, thats why I'm asking.
How do I know if I have a bad clutch?, I was doing some power runs, suddenly, I couldnt engage any gear. I was stuck in neutral. I had to pull over, and put it in gear and then start the car, it was still hard to change gears. sometimes grinding, while I tried to force it in.
By the time I got home I couldn't even go into any gear at all. I would turn off the car, put it in gear and start, and car would jerk(even when I held clutch down).
Did I loose my clutch(which my friend said I did) or is there some other mechanism possibly damaged b4 clutch. My friend said there is no cable between pedal and clutch, that its just the hydraulics?. I'm not so knowledgeable about that part of the drivetrain, any ideas of possible problem? Oh, and my clutch fluid is topped ok.
Also if its clutch, whats a good racing clutch to go with.(I've been running the original factory clutch).

Re: clutch damage (Track rat)
wow! thanks guys. This damping spring you talk about, is it part of the clutch itself, or is it external to the clutch system. i.e if I bought a new clutch, does it come with the damping spring, or is it external ?
Either way, I'm still going to my shop guy to check it out. I just wanted to have idea, so I come in knowing what to expect from his analysis.
The saddest thing is, I don't even know how i'm gonna get the car to the shop(i.e without towing) Any ideas of how to drive without clutch?( )

The springs are integral with the friction disc, 4 - 5 of them are arranged around the center spline.

it can be done... just have shift into neutral and kill the motor at each traffic signal. then put the car in 1st and start it up once you can move.
you can ease the car into higher gears (and can downshift) w/o the clutch... just use the syncros and lots of caution.

Re: clutch damage (Willard)
Sound like you guys have this one covered. I had the same thing happen to my '92 GSR several years ago. A piece of the disc around one of the damping springs broke loose and lodge between the clutch plate and the flywheel.
It’s kind of a sickening feeling after severally thrashing through the gears.
I've installed and used the ACT and Clutch Masters with no problems to date.
JL
BTW NewB here...

Re: clutch damage (jlsnyderTypeR)
overall, whats a good racing clutch deal. i.e performance, longlasting, price
from a pick of manufacturers everyone's recommending i.e ACT, Exedy, Clutchmasters
ACT has too many choices for integra R
Clutchmasters has like 1 choice
Exedy, numerous too.
I mean I'm looking for good race spec clutch, possibly to handle turbo setup. But I dont wanna get more than I need, also any recommendation for flywheel.

Re: clutch damage (dexy)
Toda CM steel flywheels are reliable, light (about 8lbs for ITR) and very well made. There are lighter ones out there, but they are usually alum or steel/alum.
I went with an Exedy organic (about 1/2 lb lighter than stock) clutch for road racing, but you 'll want something more aggressive for drag racing and/or high HP.

I'd also check out Action Clutch. If you want a long lasting clutch I would run one of the kevlar units. If you want smooth engagement run the sprung clutch, harsh engagement run the unsprung.
We carry the Action Lineup here, IM me if you'd like pricing or further reccomendation/info.
As far as flywheel, I have a fidanza in my 97 Lude... Its a decent unit. But for the B-series the Toda is the flywheel I would choose.. The majority of it's mass is centrally located, so it spins up quick.
