Fab tool question Dont know what its called.
Fabricating some custom pipes for my s4. Not long ago I found some sleeves that wrap around the pipes so you could ajoin/align two ends for mock up purposes. They come in differant diameters and clamp to the pipe using some sort of latch device. They also have small gaps so you can tac weld the joint when everything is lined up to your liking. Does anyone know what they are called or where I can purchase them. -thanks

Re: (ROTARY)
Yeah its not the pipe master. I already have a set and it slides up and down the pipe used for knotching. The one I found looks nearly identicle but is slimmer in design and is solely for mock up. I found some internal ones but they wont hold the pipes together they are soley for alignment. If you know anything about s4's the piping is rediculous. And a garage floor is far from ideal for running the exhaust and charge piping.

Fun to drive, Not to work on. I've already fab'd headers for a pair of gt25r's (surprisingly ez) Now the fun part running all the charge piping and exhaust.

I think they are color coded by size. I only have roberts oxygen and airgas near me and they don't carry them. They looked at me funny when I was trying to explain to them what I was looking for.

Nope I haven't tried that. I think im just going to split a pipe into thirds tack it to 2 t-clamps and just use that. Some of the spaces where the pipe has to run has minimal clearance.
bigkvn77 - have you used drilled hose clamps?</TD></TR></TABLE>

Re: (bigkvn77)
Go to autozone/pepboyz/napa/whomever, find the exhaust section, find a wrap around clamp or similar, punch a hole in it with a big drill bit. Clamp it around the pipe, tac weld, rotate the clamp, tac weld, etc.
Of course the drawback is that some of those clamps can be a little on the big side.
I haven't actually gone to the store and bought them myself, I just have a random assortment of them from working on other people's cars. I think they normally go for around $10 a piece.
Edit: kind of like these, what I did was punch 3 holes in it. Then I can put a few tack welds at once, rotate it, put a few more, and be done with that joint.
If you want to make your life easier, tack on a wing nut. No tool tightening FTW. :D

This must be what you're talking about :

And I hear you on the S4 being a pain to work on, I've done many S4 kits, and even squeezed two GT2871Rs in there.

Re: (Agtronic)
Oooooh, now those are a really good idea for where you can't get a straight clamp across. I might have to grab a half dozen or so of those when released.
