Vtec problems
Yes, I've searched for weeks now through the archives and all posts on vtec but still have not found the answer to my problem. I've recently put together my friends GSR motor (obd2a on a EK)and now vtec is not working. I'm not getting any CELS at all either. So far this is the list of things I have checked and still have not found the source of the problem:
-cleaned out the mesh inside the vtec solenoid
-switched out the vtec solenoid for a known working one
-rewired the vtec and had someone else double check it
-took of the oil pan and made sure there was enough clearance between the oil pick up
-replaced the oil pump with a new one
-vss is working
-motor is getting up to temp
-gauges are working
-swaped out the the ECU for a known working one
-dowel pin and oring are in place under cam holder
-bypassed the oil pressure switch direct to vtec solenoid
-ran a oil line directly to the head to check for any blocked passeges on the block or head
-disconnected the plugs from the vtec solenoid and pressure switch to see if gives any CELS and yes the it does code 22 and 23.(so wiring is working)
-oil level is good
I'm stumped and now think it has something to do with the way the machine shop assembled the head. I think the pistons that lock the rockers to activate vtec are not engaging properly. The head got three angle valve job, skunk2 springs and retainers, aftermarket valves(dont know which ones). I dont know exactly what was their process to reassemble it.
Any help would be appreciated and if you dont know anything or have negative commons keep them to yourself, thank you.

Re: Vtec problems
little pin on solenoid side, big pin in the middle rocker and they both slide away from the solenoid. Search google images for [vtec pins rocker]. There are alot of diagrams.

Re: Vtec problems
Thanks for the help delsolproblems but the pins I'm talking about are the ones that look like they are pressed in. They are located in the center of the rockers. I have two other GSR heads and they seem to have these pins between the rocker closer to the solenoid while the head I'm having problems has these pins in random order. Does it matter what order they are in?

Re: Vtec problems
See if you can point out the pin on these pics. If you don't mean the vtec pins then I don't know which you mean. If it's not on these pics, try to find a picture of it on google images.

Re: Vtec problems
Mine's doing exactly the same thing again! It first happened when I did a jdm b16a obd1 p30ecu in a usdm 94 civic si. A guy at the local tuning shop troubleshooted it back to a fuse or relay under my hood. I wish I could remember what it was. I too have checked all of the obvious screen, solenoid, wiring connections, no cels, gauges work, rpm's all the way to 8k, oil pan not dented, fresh oil change, etc. all good. The only thing I haven't really done is check the pickup, mostly due to the recent oil change, but other than that, I'm pretty convinced it's the previous fix if any one knows what fuse or relay may be the problem?
