GSR head on LS bottom HELP???
Now before I start, I just want to say that I've searched and I can't find anything addressing this exact problem. I have a friend putting a GSR head on his LS bottom and he's having some trouble. One thing is that he's using the stock GSR intake manifold on and he says there are plugs that have no place. Now keep in mind that he still has the LS harness. Will there be any problems using the LS plugs(besides the butterflies not working)? The other question is will the vtec work with just a vtec controller and no vtec ecu? He says it can, and I disagree, so who's right?

Well hes going to definitely need a vtec ecu. Otherwise theres no signal to the motor to activate it. The VAFC controller is a piggyback, meaning it has the abilty to modify whats already there.

that would make sense to have a gsr harness since you are making the motor pretty much are b18c the vtec is going to have to plug in somewhere but thats just my 2cents

you can use a non vtec ecu with a vtec cont, the only bad thing is that you cannot get full power having too shift a 7,000 and needing to add more fuel when vtec kicks, because you will run lean in vtec or you will not have full power. just spend the money and get the right ecu..

Re: GSR head on LS bottom HELP???
So basically what you all are saying is that he NEEDS the GSR HARNESS and a VTEC ECU in order for this motor to work, cuz nothing is plugging into that intake manifold. What about the fuel rail? He has the GSR rail and injectors, but they won't plug in either. Can he use the LS injectors on the GSR rail, or what?

you can activate vtec through a vafc, but it's not the same as using a vetc ecu since timing will still be off. the mid lobe has different timing maps than the pri/sec lobes.
as far as the harness you can use your ls one, just wire for iab's, and vtec
