Default LSV-tec or GSR???

I'm selling my eg coupe in 3 months and I want a 98+ GSR... but they are a little more expensive than an LS and finding a GSR is slim to none. So I was wondering if I were to get an LS and put a v-tec head on it would it be faster than a GSR? also I I got a type-R head instead of a GSR would it be faster. How much would the LS/v-tec cost with the GSR head and also the type-R head?? thanks

Just to let you know, this topic has been covered over a million times. Just search for LSVTEC or LS/VTEC or similar, and you will find many discussions.

As far as the conversion to LS/VTEC, unless you upgrade the internals, you won't be able to rev over the LS redline of 6800ish. Because of this, I think the GSR would still be faster... but if you do internal work than you will have the advantage. Either way, it all depends on your goals with the car. I am pretty sure about all that, but I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong. That's my $0.02

As for your second question, I don't know anything about the ITR head. Hope that helps...

Jason

It will be cheaper in the long run to just go ahead with the GSR, due to the fact that an LS/VTEC will require upgraded internals (balanced crank, higher compression pistons) in order to be pushed to a suitable redline.

i just came from the track. Ls/vtec in teg. with only a catback and a shortram. Pulled 14.4 first run! just had the motor built cause i blew my gsr (15.00 consistantly in the gsr). As for the motor only revving to 6800 BULLSHIT. its true that the ls bottom end wasnt made to go over 7k but it handles it fine on track nights and occasional street racing. just dont beat on it from stoplight to stoplight.

Buy a GSR. You will have to do alot of internal work to bust a LS/VTEC. Keep looking for a GSR.
