I supplied the new rear shocks and the mechanic charged $175 for their installation.

Most likely it's the idle air control valve -- either needs cleaning or replacement. If you do a SEARCH on the subject, you will find many detailed responses....

I replaced the master and slave cylinders for the clutch, connceted all the lines, poured brake fluid into the reservoir, attached a bleeder line to the open bleeder valve on the slave, and pumped...

Despite the cleaning, the idle air control valve could be bad. Unplug it and see what happens.

Yes, it could be the IAC valve or the throttle position sensor or the MAP sensor or an air leak by a gasket somewhere in the intake manifold area.
