How much HP will the auto tranny hold though? I know people with higher horsepower (see: turbo) on the 5spd have trouble keeping their transmission working the way it should. I've never seen any...

Mine never sat at any particular speed, but boy did it move around really fast! And then, BOOM, dead. Not even a twitch. If you're sure it's not the VSS, I would swap the speedo out.
