Default d16y8 to B16a conversion

Alright guys, here's the deal. . . I have recently been "hired" to swap a 92-95 SIR-II B16a into a 2000 Civic EX coupe. The motor came complete with all the sensors, axles, ECU, etc from hmotors.com.

From what I understand, This guy bought the "wrong" motor. I say wrong because this is going to be a bitch to get going. Im being told that I need a USDM wiring harness from an EG hatch (OBDI) Hopefully that will work, but that takes time to get. Sooooooo. . . As far as I know, I have to go check to see if the axles that came with the motor will spline with the EX knuckles. Also, Im told that I need a rear mount from a Civic Si, that makes sense.

Im tired, Im dirty, Im frustrated, and Ive been working all day long with very little to show. The kid whose car it is asked me if it would be running tomorrow, I laughed.

Im sorry if this post is somewhat incomplete, but as I said Im tired.

Feel free to ask questions for info of what Ive left out, I need advice badly.

if you have a 2000 civic...i'd use his harness on the ex motor and cut and splice to make it work on the old the older b16...you'll have to extend wiring for the intake temp dealy and the speed sensor and a few other things...but you can't use the obd 1 harness only b/c its 2 peices, and obd2 harnesses are 1...i'm doing the same thing on my 97 hatch..i'm using a 94 del sol b16a3 and i used an EX harness and lenthed a few things...got a obd2a to obd1 conversoin harness..and ran my ECU i think a p30 will run it too w/ no problems i forget...your axels should work fine too i beleive w/o any mods...i beleive...you need the Si rear mount all other mounts will be fine...i think thats it...

Its 2:45am. I just spent almost 15hr straight working on this car. The motor is in, The axles are splined to the tranny, but we are having trouble getting them all the way onto the knuckles. I think with a little PB blaster a some "gentle persuasion" with a BFH we can get them all the way on. We have the driver's side and passenger side mounts on the engine, I havent really looked at the rear one yet, but it almost looks like it will fit.

Im not sure cutting and splicing the EX harness is going to work, I will be left with extra wires in some places and will be short wires in others, (in reguards to the actual connectors). What Im looking at doing is trying to find and actual 2000 Si harness to simple plug in, or *sigh* extending almost every wire on the JDM harness to make it work. I would be getting paid to do it, but Im not sure that its worth the money, or that my time spent will be any cheaper than buying a harness at the dealership.

For the few that are interested, here are a few of the pics I have taken so far:

Using any other harness other than a 99-00 Civic will be so much work you'll want to hit yourself repeatedly in the head with a hammer. Using the Y8 harness is no different from the 99-00 Si harness - they have the same layout, pinouts and connectors pretty much. It's much easier to just reuse the Y8 harness, change the distributor and alternator plugs with the OBD1 plugs from the JDM harness, reuse the Y8 injectors (for plug and play) and then use an OBD2B to OBD1 ECU adapter and it's a done deal.

Well, here is a thought. . . The head has a "95" stamped on it, being that ODBII came out in 96, this engine could be either way, right?

And if the EX harness has 8 pins on the distributor, and the B16a harness has 9 pins on the ditributor, which do I leave out when I switch connectors. Does any one have a helms for either vehicle?

Also, is there such a thing as an OBDIIa and an OBDIIb? I had never heard of two different versions of ODBII before, but the owner of the car is tell me that was what he was told he needed.

I gotta get back to work though, there is a ton of loose ends I have to finish.

Thanks for the help guys, any more info is highly appriciated.

If the distributor on the B16A has only 1 plug then the distributor is OBD2, which would probably mean the engine and the rest of the parts are as well. If that's the case the wiring will be a litte easier.

Yes.

OBD2A Civic = 1996-98
OBD2B Civic = 1999-00

OBD2A Integra = 1996-99
OBD2B Integra = 2000-01
