Default b16a vs. b18c1

Im about to drop a swap in my car (94 civic ex coupe) and was just wanting a few opinions of which one of these i should go with. Is is easier to put in the b16a or are they about the same? Also will i have to get anything extra besides what comes with the engines in the complete changeovers from hmotorsonline? let me know what yall think. thanks

for almost anyswap you will need things other than just the engine, most things arent absolutly required but they are a good idea.

motor + tranny
motor mounts
wiring harness
ecu
depending on what ecu and what year motor u might need a obd1 obd2 conversion harness
make sure u have the right mount brackets
umm well wen i swapped i swapped into an ex auto car so i had to do a few extra things..

hey its DC2 again... ok nvm

yea so i agree gsr motor would probably be a better idea. my 16 is draggin me down... so much time and money to get such a slow car... lol =/

but more importantly.. gsr has more potential..

I hear the b16 is better because it has more top end power (guy was telling me that he saw a swaped eg with a b16 and a b18 go with the same mods and the b18 pulled on him at first but the b16 caught up in the end), is this true?
Everybody seems to be big b18c fans, so i was wondering about this.

i've never driven a car with a 16 but i have a b18c1 in my eg and i love it. if you can get your hands on one for a decent price, i would recommend it.

Theres no replacement for displacement. The motors are just tuned differently from the factory.

A bit more goes into than that. B16s usually come with 160 or 170 hp, depends on the model, and GSRs come with 170 or 180 hp... again, depends on the model of motor. B16s have slightly shorter 3rd, 4th, and 5th gears so if you have one making the same power as the GSR, you may very well have the B16 pulling back with the GSR. But gotta factor driving into that too.

Either way, a B16 and B18C are virtually identical swaps in terms of procedure and difficulty. I'd go with the GSR, but that's because I'm partial to them. I love mine. And it will always make more torque, as there is no replacement for displacement.

There must have been something REALLY wrong with either that B18C1 or the install itself. Either that or the B18C1 went into a car that was ALOT heavier. Because a B18C1 has more HP AND torque than a B16A (all esle being equal).

They are about the same to drop in. The B18 GSR needs a couple extra wires, but pretty simple.

The JDM B18 is well worth the exta cash in my mind.

b18c1 has somewhere around 180 hp (factory rated) and the b16a has around 160 hp........if a b16a beat a b18c1, then the 16 was modded more, or the c1 was skrewed up, or the driver of the c1 just plain sucked
