Default b20b vs b20z

If I'm posting in the wrong place say so and ill close it and.move it..

So I'm looking to doa engne swap in my98 civic.. I want to do a b20 but not sure which one to get.. I plan on doing a b20vtec conversion and then latrr on down the road boosting it. I know the b20b has lower compresion than the b20z. So I'm not sure if that effects whether to boist or not or how much. Im hopeing to get around 350whp on 10lbs and a good tune.. Im still unsure what transmission I should use aand what head to use.. I will be sleeving the block to handle the boost so any ideas? Or thoughts? Any help or input will help me out

Thanks!

B20V can be a "pita" reliability wise(unless done right) 350WHP at 10lbs ? get ready to touch the bottom end. tranny if you have the money get an s80 w/lsd and 4.7FD if not the GSR one is pretty good also.

Yes I plan on sleeving the block and shot peening rods. I'm still unsure about what pistons to get? Im not sure whether to get the the high compression engine or low? I was thinking low cuz of boost but.thats also a 20hp drop from high cr to low c. As for transmission I was thinking a b16? But I hear it has very short gears?? (Guy on highschool. Budget Haha) I did think of the gsr but couldn't find one under a grand.. any ideas or thoughts?

Depends on which B20b you have. b20z was only USDM for the 99-00 year. That same model year in Japan is a B20b with the same 9.6:1 CR as the B20z.

I have a high comp B20b, non vtec, with a b16 trans and that bitch pulls harder than a b16, mainly due to torque. and with the much less restrictive components, in comparison to what a CRV would have (which is how b20s are rated) could possibly have as much power, if not more, at the wheels than a b16.

Alright I was planning on doing the b20 high cr and getting the tranny before doing the vtec swap. Npw I don't know much about the whole ecu thing so any help here would be nice! Like I jave no clue what ecu to use or anything haha now for my wiring harness is it all basically the same? Will it plug right up or do I need to find a b series harness? Last question (for now) does the b20 bolt right in no motor mount custom fab needed? Or do I need to get the has sport motor mounts?

Thanks!

if you were keeping it stock, I would say b20z2 but since youre sleeving it and putting pistons, it really doesn't mater. either block will do. better yet get an ls block and boost that. we have a car at the shop that runs low 10's with over 600 hp on stock b18a sleeves.

Ok man back in the day I had a b20b with a GSR head type r intake and Gsr exhaust cam with a Gsr tranny with a p28 with a shitty type r program, cheap eBay turbo and manifold and it pulled like a monster only race lost was to a 700 hp vette that was spraying his top end. The ls tranny for top end is better an cheaper in most junk yard si or Gsr 1-3 gear in an ls with and LSD would be a good and cheap tranny. Motor wise Gsr hear will yield a higher comp ratio but b16 flows better out the box. Will you be upgrading cams and for 350hp message me!
