V-AFC important!
I just installed my vafc, it was working fine last night.I get in this morning and find out i have cant hit vtec.We did no tuning just intitial settings and engagement. What could be the problem. All wires were properly secured and no codes were thrown until this morning 5th gear vtec stuttered and engine light came on.Any suggestions, please help.

i would check your wiring again. if you didin't solder/ heatshrink theres a good chance you connections are loose.

That should be your problem right there. 5th gear VTEC in a car that isn't operating properly can't be good. When I installed mine my VTEC mechanism wasn't working until I set the VTEC engagement at 5100. If its not working properly then its ALWAYS install/human error.

That is funky as **** dude because I had the exact same problem twice last week. We checked and there were no loose/bad connections, the V-AFC was untuned and the settings were all normal. Wasn't 5th gear though, once in 3rd gear VTEC and once in 4th. The CEL was 22 I think (VTEC malfunction). Tech told me that CEL is usually thrown if a lean condition is detected during VTEC.
We never did figure out exactly what made it do that, but it was 3 days after we installed the V-AFC.

I would just disconnect all the wires except for the power, ground and rpm until you can get on a dyno. With all the air/fuel wires disconnected you can't cause any damage to the motor. The vafc would just be an expensive tachometer with bling factor.

Same thing happened to me and it didn't end up having anything to due with the wiring or the vtec system. The corrections around were too much for the computer and it would just sputter.
