Default vtec/vafc question

I have an eg with a gsr in it, I recently put in a vafc and since then whenever i am in 4th gear vtec wil not turn on and i get a check engine light for the vtec solenoid. I have not touched the settings on the vafc yet and vtec works fine in 1st thru 3rd. has anyone ever heard of this before, any help is much appreciated.

Assuming it's installed correctly... did you perform the initialization procedure stated in the manual ?

Did you hook up the VTM wire? Did you set it up to run with your motor, doesn't have to be tuned, but it has to be set to the correct # of cylinders, sensors, etc...

Yea, but the intialize function in the miscellanous section resets it to factory settings.

Well... I didn't mean the initialization function... I mean the procedure as spelled out in the manual... involves throttle type, cylinders, sensor test..etc...
