Default Another VTEC question

Hi,

I just got this 98 Prelude and i dont think my VTEC is kicking in. I have driven the car up to 6,000 RPM in both 2nd and 3rd gear, but i dont feel this kick everyone tells me about. Am i suppose to be flooring the car when i am trying to hit VTEC?

Also, i found this one site where you can run your VIN number and it will tell you if your car has been serviced for the recalls. I can't find this site anymore. Anyone know of the site that i just mention?

thanks.

Check your oil level, then check your VTEC solenoid. If your oil level's low, VTEC won't engage.

As for the website, I think it's this one: https://www.ahm-ownerlink.com/...2Easp

93 H22?, what do you mean by that. LOL, as you can tell i dont know much about cars.

Anyways, where can i check the oil level for VTEC? If your talking about engine oil, then i have more than enough, i just got an oil change on it. IF possible a picture would be a lot easier for me to locate the VTEC oil. Also where is the solenoid you guys are talking about?

And THANK YOU
thegeorge613, that is the exact website i am talking about

There is no "VTEC oil"....it is just the oil you put in your car. If the oil pressure in your block is too low, VTEC will not engage. But they also said that if you had low oil pressure, you will have the check engine light on. Which I am assuming you don't have on. So nothing to worry about there.

Also, you don't always feel VTEC...it engages ALL THE TIME but if you feel anything, that's torque carrying you through the band. I'm sure the VTEC works on your car though....

93 is the first year h22s were introduced in the prelude. its pretty rare to find a original h22 in a 93 that has never been rebuilt.

Thanks guys,

In the USA we didn't get the H22 until 93. Only Prelude SI's and S's in 92.

I think he was referring to the fact that few have never been rebuilt. I have a 94 that's never been rebuilt, aside from replaced valves.

Yes you are suppose to be "flooring it" to engage in VTEC.

yeah if u dont have it atleast 3/4 floored vtec wont engage, also if the engine is still cold, meaning u havent warmed it enough long enough it will only rev up to 5k.

I got a 93 jdm h22a. Never been rebuilt, works great, even has original timing belt, which i need to replace sometime. Anyways, are u throwing a check engine light? If u're not then it should be working.

Yeah my friends vtec on his del sol is pretty loud. It actually sounds like its the engine is knocking. At whatever rpm its set the vtec kicks in and you can definitely tell.

cool, since this is my second car i am babying the car and i haven't even began to race it out, i have only pressed the gas less than half way down.

But for normal driving, how hot does your car get? In normal driving, i can smell like burnt oil faintly, but the heat that is emitting from the engine is way strong. How does are your lude?

and no, my check engine is not on
