Default OBD??


Is this some jap engine, I don't know what an OBDI and OBDII are. Can someone explain what it is?

I'm getting a 91' civic si soon either that or a 93' eg6 a cx though

I just wanted to know what a OBD engine was

No it's not an engine. OBD stands for On-Board Diagnostic system. Basically I'm going to paraphrase from this pdf I found on google....

"In '85 the California Air Resources Board (CARB) approved this onboard regulations **** otherwise known as OBD. This did some stuff and uhh extablished a system of codes indicating where your car is ******* up. So you can find out where your car is broken by what code it is throwing. Mkay."

OBD is like the style of electronics present on that vehicle.

1991 and older = OBD-0 or "non-OBD"

1992-1995 = OBD-1.

1996+ = OBD2 - and there have been revisions such as obd2a and obd2b, etc, but I'm not too sure which years these fall under.

depending on what motor you get its usually best to run an obd1 steup.....

technaly, 85 was the start of "OBD0" with the FI system that had four lights on the side of the ECU.
