is it a MLS gasket? if it is just get some pliers and pull on one of the rivets which shouldn't be on the surface of the block

I just went through this same crap last week. I was tod to use gasket remover but i went through like 3 cans with hardly any progress. Finaly i just used a razor blade and was really careful not to scratch the surface of the block, it takes forever though. good luck man

Use a soft wire brush on a drill that will take it off and not screw the mating surface

I ended up using gasket remover and a chisel.

Be sure not to gouge the mating surface at all!

I actually never finished because I had to move before I got all the parts and ended up putting my poor CRX into storage.

Let us know how it comes out.

3m makes a ROLOC bristle disc which is used on a drill or die grinder.I always use them works great on pretty much everything.

use the metal d16y8 headgasket if its the stock motor (si, dx, std/cx) doesn't matter what model. Comes off clean with 0 residue

If you have a b-series swap, use the oe gasket and it should be 3-piece metal.

I like the looks of that.

Is that just a soft rubber / plastic bristle disc with some sort of light abrasive on the bristles?

Safe to use on the aluminum block?

Update : Great vid here that answers my questions :
