Default Building head, need expert advice

OK, so I'm getting ready to have some headwork done, and I'm trying to do as much myself as I can.

Work will include:
Comp/Zex stage 2 cams
Comp/Zex valvesprings
Comp/Zex ti. Retainers
Hayame camgears.

Got it all from H-T members (thankful )

Now this is where the problem starts.
I also have skunk2 High comp valves I want to have mounted. This part I can't do on my own. The valves need to be seated.
The shop that's going to do the head work doesn't have that much honda experience, but telling from the mileage (100.000 miles approx) they told me that they will probably have to rework the valve seats. This would take about 5 hours of work, at almost 50 bux an hour (Holland is expensive!)

Then I'm not even talking about a few hundred bucks worth of headgasket, misc seals and a new timing belt.

So now I'm having second thoughts. It'll cost me a shitload extra, just to have the valves put in, while I can do cams and springs without taking the head off.

Is the shop assuming correctly that it's probable they'll have to resurface the valve seats?
Is it wise to just skip the valves, and spend the cash elsewhere?
I'm not lookin gto rev that far beyond 9.000Rpm I think the cams top out somewhere around or just beyond there.

Opinions please?

I've had the crank bearings replaced a few thousand miles ago. Bottom end is stock apart from that.

The rest of the block itself is virtually stock. Just bolt ons like header, intake and exhaust.
I'll be running a modded P30 OBD1 ecu when I get it back. PW0 for now.

Why don't you just sell this stuff, and get an entire headpackage from portflow?

I think your current package would have cost you about 1200-1400 ? Just throw in a few more bucks and gain a lot more hp! Your cams will really benifit form a better flowing head and some more compression!

if you are building a head to that extent you should have the valves reseated, p'np the works... it will show the full gains. a machine shop, as long as they have experience with doing head work can work on just about all heads.

I commend the guys that want to try to do their own head work. IF done, right obviously the results are good. But keep in mind that if done wrong and the material taken out is too much at certain areas, it can give worse results than what you started with.

Trouble is... I'm in europe... 6000 miles away.
So unless exospeed can give me a killer deal, and I send my **** state side... I'm in trouble.

Sending your head to get work done at a shop that isn't experienced with honda cylinder heads might turn into a big problem. Every head isn't the same and they all require special little things some don't know.
Here is a little story for you:
We used to have a engine builder for us but his specialty is head porting. His main job is building Panoz motors for speedvision touring cars and he has built a countless number of these motors and Ford Cobra motors. He actually had something to do with the head design of the ford cobra cylinder head. So we had a customer who wanted his head ported, new valves, retainers,etc.... So we get the head back and the valves seats are leaking oil. So he said he would fix it, next time we get the head back their is a bent valve and still leaking oil . This was on eagle talon cylinder head, but as you can see he wasn't aware of the cylinder head so he made mistakes. Its just something to think about, so you don't have to spend more money in the long run.

I sent an email to exospeed.

Maybe they are willing to do the work, and if I send them the stuff I already have, that would cut a considerable chunk off the price.
Now I just need a core, and need to know how much shipping would be approx....

Exospeed work looks absolutely gorgeous.

Just remember good looks don't mean good performance (but only read GREAT things about exospeed headwork)

Anyway.. You could have a head sent too them from within the states. It would be considerably less shippingcosts.

And while their are a lot of places in holland to get great headwork... but they unfortunatelly aren't specialized in cars :D

Only now I see you're from holland too, so you don't know **** just like me!

I just received an email from a guy who works at a machine shop, and DOES have experience. Not only is wear and tear hardly noticeable in a B16 head...he's going to do all the machining for me, basically just for material costs!
For that price I might ask him to flow the whole head for me!
New seals, gaskets etc...think i'm gonna hit up summitracing for those.

...still want to hear from exospeed tho.

shops that has little honda experience spells TROUBLE with a capital T ... and the rate is not worth the trouble.... IMO i would just sell of the parts and buy a head that is already built right w/ warranty...
