I saw this sensor hanging down in my engine bay under the intake manifold:

There was a hose running from the intake manifold to the sensor then to the charcoal canister on the fire wall. I unplugged the sensor and there was no check engine light. I left it unplugged and ran the car, there appeared to be no difference with or without it plugged in. What exactly is this sensor and is it needed? Thanks.

that appears to be a firewall mount map sensor. but it would say map assy on it, so you would know if that was it what motor do you have?

The motor is a JDM ITR in a 96 DX EK. It is running a P28 with a 0bd1 to obd2 jumper harness. Is the solenoid necessary? It was connected via a hose for the manifold to the charcoal canister. What exactly does it do? The part number on the solenoid itself is Denso: 136200-1290 PCS4.

with obd1 ecu, no you dont have to use it. there will be a code with obd2 ecu. p28

wait, you mean obd2 to obd1 right? p28=obd1

... I think it opens to control gas vapors to the canister... or it closes to relase hydrocarbons. ??

yes, obd2 to obd1 via a p28 ecu. If I take it off, do I just plug the outlet on the intake manifold?
