Violent shake when in 1st gear
whenever I drive in 1st gear the car would shake violently. And the shake would eventually go away after shifting to 2nd. It would shake badly. Only 1st and reverse is the only gear that would shake violently
Does bad motor mounts, or bad clutch cause the engine to shake this bad?
edit* I tried driving the car in 2nd or 3rd and it also shakes badly. So not just shaking in 1st or Reverse

mine did this, basically the inner cv joint melted and mushroomed inside the gearbox, rendering it screwed, had to get new gearbox and cv joint.
I start by checking out your driveshafts/cv joints that go into the gearbox, get it in the air and grab hold of the cv joints where they go into the gearbox and give it a wiggle, if it moves loads then its bust.

Re: Violent shake when in 1st gear (aown61)
well basically my old z6 engine had spun a bearing. so i had to replace the engine with another z6. I should have taken a look at the clutch while the tranny was out. But the tranny was fine in my old z6 and didnt give me any problems. it was shifting fine and all. Its after i replaced the tranny with the new engine when i had this problem. So i was thinking it shouldnt be my tranny at all. because it was driving fine before i had the spun bearing.

I got remanned axles at Advanced Auto parts, and they were crap. This was 1 out of 6 axle's that I've bought from there though.
If you had a bad clutch, you'd more than likely feel it throughout each gear.

like i said if there is excess play in your driveshaft/cv joint then that will be your problem, could be a bearing collapsed, i left mine to long to fix it and because of all the friction, the heat build up melted my cv joint into the gearbox, and thats when the my car started shaking violently, and also why i needed a new gearbox. The damage may already be done to yours, i would get it checked out asap and try not to drive it.

where exactly is the CV joint/Driveshaft? I dont think my tranny has any problems because it was ok before i took it out from my old Z6?
