Super High Idle
I have a 97 EX which i jsut converted to manual and put a new built SOHC in. I am still running the automatic computer until I go boost and run my chipped p28. The thing is that my car idles REALLY HIGH sometimes. Like this morning it was idling @ 3k. When I come to a complete stop the idle would drop to 2k. Every time I start it up it seems to pick where it wants to idle. Its usually somewhere between 500-3000 but has been as high as 3600. What causes this because its annoying as hell.

no it doesnt. Its only sometimes. But it does idle high more often than not. The TB is clean, the motor has only been in the car for 3 weeks and i cleaned my TB before putting it on there. I havent checked teh IAC, but I have the 3wire one off the automatic mani.

Re: Super High Idle
can the TPS cause this problem? Becuase my friend installed my TPS for me because he said "I am an expert", but now im starting to wonder if he did it right, becuase he was an expert at engine swaps, but they still managed to break half the sensors and plugs, moving the harness and putting the engine in. Every time I walked away they broke something.

Re: Super High Idle
Well the TPS is adjustable on your motor right? (it is on my H22) to adjust the tps you need to get out a voltmeter and check for voltage with the ignition on, car off on the middle wire for the tps while it is connected. When the throttle is closed it should read between .45 and .5 volts and about 5 volts at WOT.

Fast idle valve or idle air control valve. check them and clean or replace them. rebleed the coolent system and check for a small coolent leak. also check for a vacuum leak. id start in that order.

Ya I don't see it being the iacv as it was fine until I put it in the car when we did the swap. It idled high ever since I started it after the swap. If the idle was jumping then I would suspect the iacv. But it doesn't.

Re: Super High Idle
Assuming you have checked the tps and it is at about .45v closed and around 4.5v fully opened. If you have a scan tool you can do it by going into the data list and looking at the tp sensor. If this stuff checks out. Then your FITV not the IAC, an inconsistent high idle is usually the culprit. IAC has an electrical plug into it, the FITV is usally located underneath the throttle body, and has coolant lines going to it. I would also suggest you get the right ecu in this car before trouble shooting. PM me if you need more help.

You could also be helpful and put in your $.02 about his problem. Maybe he has already searched, maybe he found those 1000 results, and didn't like any of the answers.

Re: Super High Idle
Ya ima check my tps tonight. I got a chipped p28 in my garage but I can't use it until I go boost. It's tuned for a boosted built d series on 10 psi with 450cc injectors. Then if it's not that then I'll check the other things.
