Si help
i have the oportunity to buy a 2000 civic Si for a pretty good price ($5600), i drove it today and it drives fine, VTEC works great and it pulls much stronger than i had expected. problem is that the CEL is on (didnt have a chance to pull the codes and the first time i tried to start it it just cranked for 20 secs or so, then i tried to crank it again and it started right up with the CEL blaring. so i turned it off in hopes that it was having a brain fart and i tried to start it again it ran for a sec then sputtered and stalled, so i tried yet another time and it started fine and i test drove it and it ran fine, VTEC did engage so i know its not on limp home mode but i do suspect it has some type of fuel problem causing the CEL. is there some kind of common problem that causes this or is it just some kind of sensor that commonly goes bad?
BTW i used to have a h22 swapped 4th gen prelude and was a member of this board back then, thats why im comming to you guys for help here.

well its from a dealership i work at, its a wholesale price and it has 94k on it which is kinda high for the year. but i did notice it is a pretty good price for the car, other than the cel it seems to be in good shape and it did run well even with the cel, once it was started...

Re: Si help (papa_smurf)
I would buy it. But I would still want to know what code it is throwing so I would at least have an idea what the problem is. If all else fails you could throw a new motor in that bitch and still be in pretty good shape money wise.

Re: Si help (JDMFreak)
the dealership is carmax and its one of our "wholesale cars" which means we wont sell it to our customers, this could be because its got too many miles, too old, or could be a complete piece or crap. but at anyrate im an employee and i have access to it but not a warranty.

or because I tested this on my car when I had a CEL. VTEC would not engage to save its life. Fixed the CEL, VTEC worked fine.
OK sure.. Im a ricer: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=978517 I dont see your How to de-rice thread.
**** dwelling but monkey? stop watching WWF.

If you have a CEL, VTEC WILL NOT ENGAGE.
Do you know what vtec even is?</TD></TR></TABLE>

Re: (IVI)
i swapped a JDM h22a into a 92 prelude si (non VTEC), i know a thing or two about vtec and what it does. VTEC was engaging on this car and i believe the only codes that will force vtec not to engage are oil pressure or timing related. so yea STFU and dont flame unless you know what your talking about. im just asking for oppinions here cause i dont have a whole lot of background on this particular platform.

ok i just pulled the code on the car, its a code 67 and thats the only code it throws. im assuming that means teh catalytic converter is clogged? would that cause it to be hard to start but run fine when started? i noticed today that it does start much easier if you give it gas while your cranking it...

Yes, it could mean that the cat is dying and clogged up. If you'd like I'll be more than happy to take a look at it with you.

Re: Si help (papa_smurf)
I would be wary of buying an SI with that many miles for so cheap.
Remember, T-belt and clutch will have to be changed soon.
Do a compression check if you can.

Re: Si help (schlit)
the reason the car is soo cheap is because i am buying it from work, its one of my benefits from working there, this car isnt available to the general public, only car dealerships and employees can buy it thats why its soo cheap.
