knock knock, whos there?
a few days ago my motor started knocking, my friend says its a spun rod bearing. so my civic is sitting outside with the oil drained and no spun bearing "matter" came out into the drain pan. im going to pull the pan tomorrow morning or monday afternoon to see if anything fell into there. i drove the car about 15 miles after it started knocking to get it home. will it need a new crank or just new bearings? what should i look for to decide what i'll need to do with my car. its a d16y8 if thats any help. and i also wanna know what caused it. i changed the oil about 1.5-2k miles ago. i dont wanna spend 500 bucks to fix the motor, but i cant afford a new one. if anyone has any low mileage motors for under 1000 bucks i'll take one off your hands. if anything sounds sketchy or weird. its because its 4:30 in the morning and my brain isnt working well right now lol i've never spun a bearing and never had to replace a crank in a car. so im pretty much a virgin on this subject..

if it does have a spun bearing, you should take the crank and rods to a machine shop and have them checked out. and if they are out of round, you're gonna have to either get new ones, or ge the oe stuff repaired. usually it costs around $50 to get a crank mic'd and turned. and about the same to get the rods mic'd and turned. then depending on how much was removed, you might need over sized bearings.

i also forgot to add that when the car started knocking, the temperature spiked clear to the top of the thermo. so maybe i had a coolant issue which caused the bearings to spin. i just need my car to run, im a college student, with no job, and about 1k in the bank. i need my car fixed very soon and very cheaply so it'll atleast last me another 10k miles until i can afford a new motor

Fix the overheating problem and your knock will probbly go away. When an engine is that hot the oil really thins out and can cause a knock.
