Default d16y8 loud knock no power taking apart

alright well i have a 00 ex w 97,xxx miles and a few months ago the motor started to have a quiet but distinctavve knock.. sounding like it was coming from the head.. after an oil change" hopefully helping" the knock got alot loader and causing the car to lose power...
So i took most of the motor apart..
things of interest...
small amount of shavings found in bottom of oil pan
top of pistons have a rust flacky residu on top of them, no gages dents etc.
after taking the girdle off i relized that if i grab the base of the rod/ rod bearing....
bearing 1 and 4 have a slight amount of play number 1 being the worst with ost play...
My biggest concen is as i rotated the crank inspecting the moving parts...
THREE things feel out
2 thin flat quarter moon peices feel out.
shortly after a larger flat almost looking like a skateboard half pipe w a groove in the middle feel out.....
Can these be the cause of my proble.... how about the play in the 2 rod bearing would that cause my knock???
thanks

Yup, classic Y8 problem, you should remove all the rod caps (mark em with a punch so you can replace them back where thay came from) and inspect them with calipers to see if they have been damaged by the bearings spinning inside them. Sounds like the crank thrust bearings fell apart too. You can try replacing the bearings, but better to have the crank checked too. You may end up with more of a mess than you started with and as you have most of it apart, do it right. You may get lucky by just replacing bearings. Check a haynes manual to see what you have and where everything goes.

yes, and thrust bearings as itsmejto said.
i'm sure the rod bearings are not long for this world, either.

make sure nothing damaged your crank before you reassemble it.

Because you've gone through countless y8's, all with spun rod bearings, right?

I'm gonna throw in my .02 cents. What fell out was a thrust washer, and a bearing. Your gonna need to have your rods and mains checked for tollerances. I advise having your entire engine looked at including the head since your gonna need a rebuild. Not doing things the right way will come back and kick your *** down the road(litterally). Get new rings and get your cylinders re-honed. Get new factory bearings, and get an e-bay gasket set(trust me on this Get CNS gaskets)

I just did a rebuild on my d15b, 2k miles ago. I advise a hard break-in method. As i have done this and i have acheived great success with it. Don't be a wuss when your breaking in your motor. Fire it up and check for leaks and so forth, let it FULLY warm up( for the love of god let it warm up fully or youll be sorry) Then back it out of the driveway take off nice and easy then rev it all the way out, hit the brakes at the stop signs. Then proceed to beat the **** out of it for at least the first 100 miles.

Think of it, if you can't beat on your motor when its brand new why are you doing it when it has miles on it? Do your engine a favor and don't do the easy break-in method. Honestly i didn't have much power till around 80 miles, and i was beating the **** out of it everyday till then. Now i have 2k miles on my new engine and it has sooo much power.( i also tuned my engine on a wideband o2 sensor, Which i highly recommend) I'm currently running with no o2 sensor (currently running in open loop mode) getting 30-35 mpg in my civic vx with a d15b and failing y8 tranny.
