i have 1992 civic cx hatch. what purpose does the inner fender liner serve?? what would happen if they where removed??? also i heard if you removed them it allows heat in the engine bay to escape. is this true??? thanks

it keeps the junk from flying up all over your motor bay and in your door jams. removing it wont help with heat. if you are having problems with heat, then its going to take a lot more then pulling the liners out to help that problem. only time it needs to be removed is if your slammed and cant run with it on.

i dont have problem from heat, just one of my friends was trying to tell me that. the main reason i asked is cause mine are beat up from someone tryin to steal my car and my car is dropped and it rubs a little. i just wanted to make sure removing them wasnt gonna hurt anything. is there any areodynamic drawback from removing them??

yup Frickr basically covered all the bases. If you want to slam your car and tuck some tires then you would remove it but other then that it helps from crap flying inside your engine bay.

other then things getting dirtier faster, a bunch of sand and stuff in various places in your motor bay, and door jams, and water splashing around i wouldnt worry about it to much. another option would be to take a mudflap off of a truck and cut to fit inside so it covers all the vitals and dont have a problem with rubbing no matter how low you are. also could be cheaper depending on the junkyard.

yup,not familiar w/ non-power cars, but all i can think of is speaker wire.it's really better to put it back unless you want to collect dust, dirt and rust thru your door jams....

Keeps dirt, water, tar and rocks from ruining your fenders and door hinges.. I bought a hatch one time that came with some nasty z3 fenders and no inner fenders.. Mud would splash out the vents.. It was pretty awful..

I say the only purpose for them is to protect yourself from theives.. the fender is where your hood latch cable runs through.. all they do it pull back the fender liner and stick their hand under the fender and pull the hood latch.. other then that its a good theif deterent.. but if you remove the inner liner I suggest you relocate your hood latch cable to the inside of the engine bay instead of the inside of the fender.

Open the door. Look in the front near the hinge to see if there are any wires.

I've seen cars that have been driven without fender liners. It's not just a little dirt that gets in there. Sand, rocks, mud, leaves, water. When you open the hood you'll see rocks and crap sitting all along the edge of the hood, all over the sides of the engine bay, in the door jambs, all the way down the sideskirts.

It just makes a huge mess.

if you pull them off its just easier for the thieves to reach under and pull your hood (latch wire)....
your choice....
IMO...KEEP THEM ON!!!

Hi, guys! I'm just bought an EM1 Civic Si. As I know there is no OEM inner REAR fender liner for Civics. But I have found some aftermarket. What do you think - is it good idea to buy and install them or there is no need? Would they help to prevent the rust?

I don't think they'd prevent rust. Water will still get in there and it might even sit along the edge, right under the liner.

It could protect the wheel well from chips though.

They might really help hatch owners with the famous taillight leaks. Perhaps you could link them?

If you decide to buy new, don't get the cheap knock-off ones. I bought some from rockauto.com and each of them were about $8. I should've known better. Practically none of the holes matched up, and I had to trim in a few places. It made a 30 minute job, a 3 hour job.
If you buy new, get the oem honda pieces.
