Default Fender liners needed?

My passenger side fender liner fell off while i was on the highway. I was wondering if they are absolutely necessary to have. I know the welds for the fender and engine bay are up there and i just didn't want to have any problems with my tire hitting any of this and possibly puncturing my tire. Thanks!

If you pull out all your fender liners you will gain 20+ HP

If you remove the wheel well liners, then rocks/stones that your tires kick up can hit the underside of your fenders and cause "reverse dings".

This is true, also, the area between your fender and door will collect every piece of dirt, every leaf and rock that your tires kick up. When you wash your car there is a constant flow of nastyness that will come from this area too.
