IDLE surging
My friend has a 94 civic ex and he is having a surging idle problem. Well the nice friend i am i searched on here for a bunch of stuff and came across FITV and did the testing for that( putting your finger over the bottom hole in the t/b. Well when i did that the surging idle went away. The problem though is i read that if it does go down then that is not your problem. Did someone post that wrong or is there something else wrong? I need some serious help with this one. Thanks in advance.

Re: IDLE surging (94CivicDx5spd)
Well it could be the FITV or the IACV (Idle Air Control Valve) mounted on the back of the intake manifold. That would be my next guess. Let me know if that solves anything and we will go from there. Happy Tuning!!!

Re: IDLE surging (HondaFanatic708)
Well the thing is he replaced the IACV already and that's why i went to the FITV next so am i right that he needs to replace that part since i put my finger over that hole and it went down or is it something else that i'm overlooking?

Take the IACV off and spray it down with some brake cleaner..to clean it out and then put it back on and see if the problem is resolved.. if not
Take off your FITV and tighten it down all the way and clean it out real good.. then pull the ''back-up'' fuse in the engine bay for 45-60 seconds to reset your idle.. If this doesn't work then check your coolant to see if you have air pockets.
Btw: do you have any cel's?

Re: (Jimmy)
No he doesn't have any CELs. I'm a little lost on why his car is doing this though. But when i took the intake off while it was running there was a LOUD sucking noise coming from the bottom hole for the FITV and i don't ever remember that with my old civic so i'm not sure if that makes any difference for you to know that or not.

Re: (94CivicDx5spd)
Might be a vacuum leak, check all the hoses to see if one has popped off. I was guessing the IACV when I first saw the problem, but you said you have checked that. My next step would be looking for a hose that has popped off.
Because the IACV would throw a CEL...

Re: (R33CIVIC)
Yea it DID have a cel and it WAS the IACV but he replaced it and it went away but the problem still went on. We have checked all of his hoses numerous times. I know for a fact it has something to do with his FITV but i'm not sure if i should have him just replace it or what.
This is exactly what his car is doing. When he starts the car up it goes up to around 3k and then slowly comes down and then bounces constally from 1k to 2k and then back down to 1k. But when you put your finger over the bottom hole(FITV) the problem goes away. Does this mean that the FITV is bad or what?
