Default Got a REF ticket, Which engine can i put in for cali inspection LS?

Well I recieved a ref ticket and im thinking of selling my turbo gsr
Do I need a 0bd2a or obd2b

The car is a 2000 civic ex 5 spd

complete setup for sale or trade for si engine must be stock engine no mods (the si will be easyer because of the harness)

obd2 is a PITA to pass but if u have the right parts you can. you will need to convert to obd2b and find yourself a p72 that is obd2b and have the immob removed

California boy? No good.. not good at all.. I don't think they even allow Integra B swap motors into civics no more unless yours was already BAR'd. Your best luck is to find a 99-00 Civic Ex motor or a 99-00 Civic USDM b16a2 motor if you plan to BAR it.

true. it's hard out here. if i'm not mistaken ANYTHING other than what is installed by the factory is an illegal modification unless you get it BAR'd. for your 2000 ex, you need a D16y8. hell, you can't even had HID's (they suck anyway), and you're car needs to be a certain height.

that quote is funny!

I don't know where all of this is coming from...of course you can put aftermarket parts (intake, header, intake manifold, etc), as long as they have CARB EO numbers. This is nothing new and it certainly hasn't changed. And yes, of course you can BAR a GSR in a '00 Civic...if you have an '00 or '01 GSR motor. If you don't...well, that sucks for you.

If you do have an '00 or '01, by all means, pull that turbo off, go over the swap with a fine-toothed comb and get the thing BAR'd. Then put your turbo on again and try not to get pulled over again.

yeah, parts that have the CARB tag on them already are obviously legal, but we're talking about full engine swaps. OP has issues...

Like I said, if the OP has a 00 or 01 motor, they're fine...they just need to remove the turbo and take it to the REF to get BAR'd. If they put in an earlier motor...it sucks to be him.

No, the motor has to be out of the same year car or later. Whether it came from an Integra or not is irrelevant. What you can't do is put in a B20 since that's considered a truck motor, and the rules specifically prohibit putting truck motors into autos. A hybrid (LS/VTEC) is no good either. But a straight B16 or B18/B18C1/5 swap is perfectly legal.

good to know. live and learn!

i knew that about the b20 not being legal though. i just never knew it had to be from a later year. damn, so that means i have to find a 98> type r motor...

WELL (fungus mungus) is 100% right jsut to add you cant reff JDM motors so if you do find a 98 type r has to be USDM and then just wire everything up as close to OEM specs for the motor i just passed in feb and yes i live in cali i reffed a 97 gsr in my 95 civic coupe

I need a completly new motor this will not pass at its

*built with lowerd compression
*1995 JDM GSR 0bd1
*and yes you can put B series motor in

Im willing to trade a complete swap b16a2 or equiv

What we will do is if you car is nice enough we can trade cars
My car is super clean with remote starte, turbo timer , navi double din, si wheels, clean paint

or

we swap engines and wire harness, ecu bla, bla (we keep are transmissions)

My engine starts perfectly with only .3 seconds of cranking time on the alarm

It's actually a very simple process. You make sure you install every smog component from a 2000-2001 GSR into your Civic and you're done! Don't worry about the year so much. The hardest part of the swap is making sure the EVAP system works correctly.

Depends on which Ref you go to. Some will just make sure it's at least an obd2 engine and allow you to equip it with the required smog.

BTW. I worked at the Referee for 2 years

BTW. The same amount of work will required to legally put either a b18b or b18c1. You've already got the hard part done Since you already have the C1 drivetrain.
