Engine smoking lightly after headgasket change
Just finished installing a y8 headgasket on my d15b7. Engine started right up but white smoke is coming from the engine around the header I believe. I have not let the car warm up enough to see if the temp gauge in the car goes up at all. I also do not think there is any noticeable smoke coming from the tailpipe.
Anything I should check for before I begin to tear it down again?

The engine smoking has stopped somewhat as it reaches operating temperature so I want to assume it was just spilled oil/coolant burning off. Now I am getting the typical hot upper/cold lower radiator hose. Does that mean my thermostat is stuck closed? The fan is also not coming on.

I had the same problem with my fan not coming on. Replaced the thermostat and the fan relay.
When replacing your head, did you re-use the oem studs or did you replace them with new ones?
(fyi: you should not used your oem bolts)
Be sure to double check the torque if the smoke reappears or after about 1000 miles.

maybe it was just the excess coolant and oil that was spilled everywhere.... it gets on the exhaust mani and then will burn off... i dont think youve got anything to worry about

I'll check the thermostat later, I 'm hoping thats all that it still is. The fan I will look into also, I'm going to jump it to see if I can get the fan to come on.

Its normal. Most likely you got some oil or water or some type of fluid around the header or the head. As it begings to heat up, everything evaporates. Everytime I take a motor apart and put it back to gether it smokes for abount 5 to 15 minutes. I saw just let it idle for a while, let it warm up, take it around the block, then see whats up.
Edit:
to all the smart people who said this before I did because I didnt read the whole tread.

Re: (JSPECHB)
Bolts were torqued properly. The engine seems ok now, no more smoking after operating temp has been reached. I haven't driven it around the block yet but coolant is circulating properly.
Only thing left to do is plug a hole in the back of the muffler below the tailpipe because its leaking a small amount of water/condensation.
