Another leak... when will it end?!?!? How to fix this one? Check it out...
I have had some kind of leak ever since I bought this car about two years ago... I thought it was the rear main so I replaced that...
In the process of pulling the tranny I found that in fact the rear main was leaking! Yay... so, I replace that and put it all back together...
Now, I notice another leak! Ahhh!
The bottom of the tranny is squeaky clean but there is a small spot of oil every time I park my car... and I decide to take a look...
Here's what I found, this is the size of the spot that appears every time I check... it's not gushing out, but a leak none the less....
I inspect it and find that it's not engine oil, but transmission fluid instead...
Here's where it's coming from, where the shift linkage hooks into the transmission...
So, what do you think? Has anyone had this problem? And how do I fix it?
If it involves pulling the tranny again I'm going to be sad, because I just put it back together...
I know I am missing the boot that is supposed to cover that part, if I replace it will it hold the fluid in there?
What should I do about this?
Thanks for the help!

My freind just had the same problem on his type r swap and he didn't have to pull the tranny out you just have to pull the old seal out and push the new one in. I don't know the exact name of the seal but it cost like 5-6 dollars from the dealer. The boot that not on there just keeps dirt and **** from getting on the shaft.
Hope that helps.

degrease it and wipe it all clean, drive it around a bit, and then look again where the source is. I think it may be the shaft seal. Make sure the shaft is in all the way.

If you dont want to really fix it. Clean it up and spread some silicone on it and see if that does the trick

Thanks for the input... I will check to make sure the input seal is pushed all the way in...
If I have to replace it, is is pretty basic? I mean, if I pull the bitch pin and remove the linkage will the seal just slide out?
I don't really want to deal with the bitch pin but that would be easier for me than pulling the transmission again...

I will never understand the "bitch" pin term. Just put a punch in there and wack it with a mallet and it pops right out. I have done a couple of them and everyone just popped right out.

i believe it starter coz it would be a "bitch" to hammer out. I've never had a problem with any swaps that i've done. that area you are looking at doesnt have any coolant lines running to it. look upwards more on the motor as it may just have a loose fitting or clamp

I'm going to go to the dealership tomorrow and see if I can pick up a new seal...
Has anyone replaced this seal before? Do I have to drain the transmission fluid?
I'm guessing I just drain the fluid, disconnect the shift linkage, pull the old seal out, and put the new one in etc.... is this correct?
I think I'm going to try to fix this on Saturday!

Tonight I went out there and inspected it some more... the oil is definately coming out from the black seal where the linkage hooks up to the tranny...
My manual doesn't say anything about how to change this seal.... it says to take the transmission to a specialist or whatever... well, I'm not doing that, so I need to figure this out myself...
Has anyone replaced this seal? How? Ahhh!
Help!
