This is a test pipe.

This is a DIY to make your own o2 simulator.

does it matter if the o2 is in the cat, not after? the site was very helpful but in the pic of the the test pipe it shows the bung after not in it

That isn't a catalytic converter, it's just a resonator.

Many people have used those test pipes.

oh OK so its eliminating the cat and the resonator is replacing it.... right? you suggest replacing the downstream o2 not eliminating it all together? if i replace the o2 do I still need to get the the non-fouler's? Or is the that what I need to do because the cat is being replaced by the resonator? what is a resonator?

Yes, but they do not function the same way.

Yes. Replace it if it is bad, do not try to "eliminate" it.

Now, what makes you believe that you have both a catalytic converter problem as well as an o2 sensor problem? Exactly which codes were present when you scanned the car? You might only need an o2 sensor. The "rattling" you're hearing is probably because of the heat shield on the catalytic converter. Mine use to rattle at certain RPM's so I cut the heat shield off. Haven't had a problem with it since.

yes it could be the heat shield. It rattles between 2700 and 3100 rpm really annoying. I don't remember the code that where pulled, but i do know i had no voltage from me downstream and the other code didn't say it was the cause it just suggested possible things that could cause the issue. Long story short, I really dont know for sure the cat is bad. I will be getting a pressure test on tues to see if the cat really is or isnt plugged.

my car idles fine and reves with no issue. the minute i put in 1st and then every gear on up if the rpms are below 2800 it cuts out and has very little power "like its falling on it face, but once over 3000 to 3200 prm it doesnt cut out and seams to run fine. I still get around 38 mpg on the hwy so im kinda baffled.

does anyone know the pros and cons to removing the resonator chamber before the airfilter on a 2002 civic ex.

A tip alone is going to make no difference other than cosmetically. If you're going to do that, just get an OEM accessory tip or something from an auto parts store.

lol megan headers and magnaflow high flow cat welded onto stock exhaust bammmmm

just toss the first o2 sensor in the top hole of the headers get a non-fouler for the second and weld on a cat to pass e-test but im not a super duper tuner lol it was just cheaper than buying a direct fit catalytic converter

Read through this whole thread and can't find what I'm looking for. I am looking to buy a Magnaflow muffler with tip already on for my 2005 em2 civic. Part # I'm looking at is 14832. Then I noticed it is center/center and it looks to me that the em2 is offset in, center out. Can anyone confirm this and will this muffler fit on my car?

Nice. I think I might go with the Magnaflow..
http://www.magnaflow.com/02catalytic...irectfit=49483

http://www.magnaflow.com/02catalytic...irectfit=49372

What are the difference between these 2? They look really different. Both say direct bolt on.

If I do go with that one, that particular one is good in California, does that mean it has a better efficiency rating overall? Looking something reliable, and if that is good in Cali, I assume it's pretty good?

I could care less about sound, I don't want it loud. Just something reliable.

Look in the description section. One is for the EX models, and the other is for non-EX's.

California has ludicrous laws regulating road users, and their emissions requirements typically only allow original factory equipment. Most anything aftermarket is illegal there, when it comes to the car's drivetrain. This does not mean anything at all, when it comes to purchasing parts for your vehicle.

if you do go with the magnaflow, i have heard that they are a little louder than stock, but if you are running the OEM muffler, you should be fine. as far as out here in CA laws with exhausts.... the sound of your exhaust cannot exceed 90 decibels. anything more is too loud and you will be cited for "modified exhaust/disturbing the peace. also, your car must be able to pass smog. i the catalytic converter says C.A.R.B. legal, all it means is that your car will still pass smog regulations after installation. it has nothing to do with efficiency or durability or anything else other than being california C.A.R.B. legal.

Sounds good. I just don't want my car to sound like a wannabe fast car. If this shop gives me the lifetime warranty, then I don't care if it fails haha.

Finally getting the shop to look at my catalytic converter tomorrow, code P0420. Loss of power, studdering while accelerating too hard.

How much can I expect to pay? I just want the code fixed, more airflow a plus not required.

OEM style
Magnaflow
Walker
Flowmaster

or what brand and pricing should I be looking at? Reading through this ungodly long of a thread now...

I need to know what size the 3 bolts are that connect the cat converter to the rest of the exhaust. I'm not spending $15 per bolt for that. Just gonna find them at an auto parts store.
