2001 LX 4 door replacement driver axle too short
Ive been to every autozone and advance and every driver side axle shaft is 35 1/2 inches long (auto, manual, abs, non-abs), while my oem is 36 and some change (i checked online and oem is 36 3/8 or 7/16 if i remember correctly) . Im only replacing the axle because while i was replacing the ball joint i noticed the inside boot of the axle had a tear and grease was thrown in a straight line throughout my firewall/motor/etc. I purchased a new aftermarket axle from advance and I have yet to reinstall the knuckle/rotors for fear of breaking the new axle due to the shorter length. Besides getting a new $458 axle from honda, has anyone had any issues with this or any recommendations because as far as i knew replacement axles are suppose to be the same size as oem.

Anyone here ever replace their driver axle and if so can you provide place and name of manufacturer/part #?

There are 2 different axles listed on the OEM site (44306-S5A-J11 and 44306-S5D-A11).
You could just get the inboard assembly, which is " cheaper" ( 44310-S5A-N60 and 44310-S5D-A21)
If all else fails, find a salvage replacement. Most can be had for $50: http://www.car-part.com/
