Accord 4 cylinder - do it yourself oil change
I’ve been doing my own oil changes for the last 25 years on a variety of cars. I’ve always been able to do it easily with all four wheels on the ground. However, I just bought a 2000 Accord with the 4cylinder engine and it looks like its not going to be so simple. The oil filter is not accessible without jacking the car up. How do you folks who change your own oil get to it? Ramps? Jack and jack stands? I’d appreciate any hints. I’d hate to have someone else perform this normally simple task for me after doing it myself for so long on so many cars.

Ramps. I absolutely hate where they put the oil filter. They couldn't offset it so it wasn't be right above the exhaust, OH NO, that would be TOO easy.........
Anybody guessed I'm havin' a REAL $hi^^y day yet ?

i'm just mad honda didn't do on our cars what they did on the 95 Integra. On 95's, the oil filter is located in the top part of the engine bay; literally you just spin and lift it off as easy as the top-mounted engine oil-cap.

sorry to hear that hippie. ya i put it up on jack stands, especially since it's 2 inches lower than stock. when you pull the oil filter it pours its contents all over the collector so wipe it off or you get a frightening and nasty smell for a few minutes before it burns off, but i'm sure you knew that. otherwise its easy as hell on these cars cause the oil cap is right on top of the head.

Re: Accord 4 cylinder - do it yourself oil change (wfc)
to wfc,
The reson I think honda ,toyota, and ect. made it harder to get to oil filter is $$$$
They make $$$$ when you go to the dealer and get a oil change, when you do that they find something else that maybe wrong with your car , and then it snow ***** from there . So i think it's going to get even harder for weekend machanic(like or selfs ) so change oil , and eventually if it;s not all ready hard to change other parts.

Jack up and jack stand the drivers side front only. IF they fixed teh oil filter location in 94, they broke it in 98 when they went to the F23. I pour oil all over the flexpipe whenever I change it.
Iam7head - I use 5w30 full synthetic and a honda filter. I think the 01s reccomend something like 5w20 though
