Small oil leak on 95 Accord
I have a 1995 Accord 2dr EX, with a manual trans. I was under the car the other day doing an oil change and i noticed it has a small oil leak. Seems to be leaking right by the oil filter, well at least thats what is seems like. Oil is running from somewhere on the upper part of the oil filter. It cannot be da oil filter it is brand new. When i drive the car fow awhile the oil ends up on top of the exhaust right by were the manifold ends well at the very bottom of the oil filter. Any ideas of what gasket i need to replace i will really appreciate so i can go straight to that point. Thanks in Advance...

could be the oil pressure sending unit. It's located above the oil filter, actually just above the coolant pipe that runs along the back of the engine.
May just need to remove it, put some Hondabond on the threads and put it back in.

when you changed the oil did you make sure the oil filter only had one seal on it?....sometimes when taking the oil filters off the seal doesnt come with it and stays on there....if they are both there that will cause an oil leak

What about a type of screw that is on top of the Oil filter neck. I was told it mayt be leakin from their as well. But i beleive the oil sending unit would be a better place to look since it is a more common oil leak in these types of cars....

Use an inspection mirror or improvise with any small mirror you have and take a peek up there. I have the same leak and it is not my oil pressure sending unit. The area around it was bone dry. That plug however had a puddle on it with no oil on the block except below that point. Because of the coolant pipe above it, I was not able to get an allen wrench squarely in the plug to tighten it properly. I was able to wedge one in cockeyed and tighten it a bit. I think it takes a 7 or 8mm. You could probably cut a short piece off of an allen wrench, then use that with a small wrench to tighten it down. That's my next move. Good luck!

for that plug, I probably wouldn't waste my time trying to tighten it. I would drain the coolant, remove the thermostat housing, unbolt that coolant pipe from the block to get more room to work, remove the plug, clean everything up, put hondabond on the threads of the plug and reinstall it, then put everything back together.

TA's way is definitely the correct way to do the job and would no doubt fix your problem if in fact that plug is leaking

just be sure to verify where the oil is coming from first. If the oil is coming from somewhere higher than that plug, look at the sending unit, if it still appears to be coming from higher then obviously keep following it until you feel you've reached the source.

Ye well i believe it is coming from the sending unit, because the block has oil from their and under, and the block is clean on top of the sending unit. Should i get just hondabond or hondabond HT, to fix the oil sending unit.

Today i finally had time to do the job. Took out oil sending unit cleaned it really good as well as the block. Put Hondabond on treads put everything back. Turned car on checked for oil leaking and seems like no more leaking is present ... Now im going to drive around and check back to see if their is any oil. But hondabond is great, it should be fixed for good.

Re: Small oil leak on 95 Accord (TouringAccord)
lol Ohh ye i forgot to mention that small oil leak was what i thought at first. When i peeked under the car i saw that the oil was running along the water pipe below it running all the way down by the right axle which cause me not to see the oil drip their. Their was only a small amount of oil going down towards the oil filter which is what i saw. So yea it was a pretty major leak lol. Thanks for all your help...

Re: Small oil leak on 95 Accord
I thought I had an issue similiar to this on my 1993 Accord, yet have replacing the sending unit it turned out not to fix the problem. I had oil leaking from the O ring gasket between the oilcooler and the block. That was a PITA to replace as it was like 10 Degrees in the garage with a heater on. I had gloves on my hands, and latex gloves over them, and i was covered in coolant and oil. (I actually swapped out the entire oil cooler, and replaced with a new gasket.)
