Suggestions about getting a broken bolt out
The bolt that connects the external wastegate flange to my turbo manifold backed out and broke off flush with the turbo manifold. I drilled a hole in the center of the broken bolt than tried using an easy-out with no luck.
I decided to use a tap on the broken bolt's hole instead. I've had luck with this in the past, usually the tap will dig into the broken bolt placing a better grip on it, then as you back the tap out counter-clockwise the broken bolt comes out along with it.
Unfortunately the tap broke off inside the broken bolt. The only option I was left with is to drill out the broken bolt and oversize the original threaded hole in the turbo manifold. It's not working, I tried drilling on it with a colbolt drill bit (stronger than titanium) for 15 minutes but it won't penetrate through the broken tap's material.
What can I do? Would a machine shop have a drill press that will penetrate through it? TIA

good machine shop FTW; that's part of what they do.
they should be upfront about what they will try and if they think they can handle it.

That's reassuring, I'll give them a call in the morning, thanks

i've been in your situation many a time and have ended up at the machine shop. the good thing is if they do hack it up a bit, they typically are pretty good at getting it back on track with heli-coils, welding, etc...

Good deal, what kind of price range should I expect? I'd rather just have them overbore the hole and then I can tap it after they're done.
