Default what do i do now - broken bolt AND bolt extractor

I was installing my vtec solenoid onto my head last night since i'm finishing assembling my motor (a6 bottom z6 top) and the first two went in nicely but the top one sheared off flush. so i tried to drill a small hole and use various items to extract it. no luck. so i bought a bolt extractor tool today. and it broke off inside of the bolt. so, what should i do now? i to get that hole cleared out so i can re tap it, but the extractor is broken all weird and is causing my drill bits to walk all over the place, and brake... PLEASE HELP!!

TIA

You might be needing a trip to the machine shop. Unless you know somone who can spot weld a nut on there...... If there is enough metal.

is anything sticking out of the hole? and what size is the bolt that broke off? if you got patience you can drill out the ezout or what ever you broke off in there. then take a small dremil bit and grind away at the bolt and then pick it out. depending on how much bolt is stuck in there.

Nah there isn't anything sticking out of the hole. I guess ill just grind at it till its flush then drill it out and tap it. As for the bolt, I think the one I used might have been too long? It was like 1.5 inches long from head to tip. And the bolt had a ten mm head. Ugh fml

One other thought I had was I could fill the hole with some jb weld or the quick mold stuff That's like clay then drill through that so I have an even surface to drill on

just go to a machine shop...we do stuff like this all the time...maybe a $10 job...plus extra if you want it professionally re-tapped and dyed. its worth it instead od a ghetto fix

Great so that's 10 plus the cost of tap and dye plus another 35 for new head bolts since its already torqued down and I went with bolts not studs. Ugh I think ill just drill it out one size larger and tap it for a bolt w a twelve mm head

if the extractor is still in there you better buy some good drill bits.

you might use a punch if its still in there.
when you use an extractor, you almost have to drill the whole broken bolt to the edge.
and its good to use a center punch so it is perfectly centered. makes a world of difference.

a agree with the center punch.... But also make sure you always use counter clock wise bits when your drilling out broken bolts , I cant tell you how many times i've had the bolt spin out just by drilling it using the C.C. bits.

Once an Extractor breaks off in hole your done unless it sticks out enough to grab with vise grips. Im saying this from experience. Dont get me wrong, it can be drilled but you gonna be there a while and go through alot of bits. If able to i would go with welding a nut in and hoping to god it sticks good enough to remove. if not than have a machine shop do it for you and save yourself the headache. Just my 2cents though.

well i'm going to give it a shot. if i can't drill it (it's only a small piece of the extractor, and it was a cheap one at that, i brakes off if i hit it with something) THEN i will take it to a machine shop. but i'm hopeful...

This has happend to me before. I drilled another hole right through the broken extractor, if i remember correctly, I broke a couple drill bits in the process. Then i put a new extractor in, and the bolt came out.

same problem happened to me on my prelude.. if the piece is kinda long you can cut the end of the extractor with a drumel machine using the little cut-off blades then get a punch and center it, then re-drill and use another extractor
