4 Bolt versus 5 Bolt turbo
I tried searching, but came up with nothing.
Whats the diferences, advantages/disadvantages of a 4 bolt versus a 5 bolt turbo? I know downpipes for 5 bolt turbos are more money so Im assuming a 5 bolt is inherently better? Im looking to boost my civic and not really looking to go crazy. Dont wanna touch anything internally cept maybe headstuds. was gonna go B, but I already have a boosted B so single slam it is. Thank for the input.

That 5 bolt came originally from the ford mustang SVO, and was almost top mounted by design. That 5th bolt on the end is going to be a bitch to keep in there, plus, depending upon the manifold, it might make things a little tight against the block for the Downpipe.
4 bolt is much easier.

Well for one, the design of the exhaust manifold which you're using will determine whether you need to run a 4 or 5 bolt downpipe. For example, the Inline Pro T3 manifold requires that you use a 5 bolt downpipe for clearance purposes.
Don't buy a turbo until you decide which manifold you're going to be running...and don't make a decision on which manifold you want based on the turbo exhaust housing outlet bolt pattern.

Fitment for the manifold and downpipe are the main "issues" that I've found. I personally hate the 5 bolts when it comes to installation

The 5 bolt exhaust housings are a bit more expensive than the 4 bolts, and your choices are a little more limited in terms of availability for replacement.

Everyone has pretty much covered it. No "advantages" per say. I personally chose a 5 bolt, because I wanted to use an inline pro manifold to keep A/C in my EM1. Having 300 whp with cold air is a nice combo!

i hate my 5 bolt turbo. what a head ache. but since im using a ac friendly turbo setup with a 62-1 i have to use a 5 bolt. if i had to start all over i would go v band.

This is the first that ive heard of a 4 bolt not fitting on cast manifolds. I have a inline pro manifold and am looking to get a 4 bolt turbo (T3/T4e 57 trim .63 a/r). Can someone explain what the fitment problems are. On, and i plan on keeping my ac.

So with the turbo that i am going with, it will fit but im going to have some grinding to do. Or do you recommend going with the 5 bolt instead.
It wouldn't be a big deal but i already purchased my downpipe and manifold and id like to stick with the 4 bolt if at all possible. Thanks.

What people are forgetting to mention on the Inline Pro manifolds, is that putting a 4 bolt turbine housing on a manifold that is designed for 5 bolt will cause you to do the serious grinding. Inline Pro also makes a manifold for the 4 bolt turbine user, so the grinding isn't as necessary for those using an "E" sized compressor cover.
Stick w/ the 4 bolt, as there are more manifold options that utilize that turbo with that turbine housing. that is easier to remove in the long run.

i bought a 4 bolt garrett in haste and my goal was to able to use ac and i have blox manifold.
Anyway, what if I switched the 4 bolt turbine housing for a 5 bolt? Will it fit better then?
