Default Help me fix this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok, so i have a constant cel but when i go to pull codes i get absolutley nothing, the ce; just stays on. i have a '92 gs with an itr swap running a chipped p28. basically the car will sputter and die over 4k. i had the problem earlier and when i went to jump the ecu with a paperclip all it did was turn the check engine light on, and when i removed the paperclip the cel went off and the problem went away. now the cel stays on even when the key is turned to acc and jumping the ecu does nothing.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by RexB16 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">... now the cel stays on even when the key is turned to acc and jumping the ecu does nothing.</TD></TR></TABLE>Check your wiring from ECU to CEL. When the key is on 'acc' the ECU isn't supposed to be powered up. So your ECU probably isn't turning on the CEL, it's just a short somewhere. The CEL gets power all the time; the ECU switches the ground side of the lamp circuit. So look at that lamp circuit for a short to ground.

ya, i thought it might be a bad ecu or a short, but with the way its acting it seems like a short to me. to be quite honest i think it has something to do with my cigarette lighter, i plugged a phone charger in at the precise time this started happening. i unpluged it and shut the car off and restarted and the light went off and the problem went away. i then plugged it back in and the same thing happned so i shut it off again and it started fine again. now here we are the next day and the light comes on and will not go off.

ugh, i hope its just an ecu and not a wiring issue. i think it will take about 10 mins of tracing wires before i want to punch someone.
