Default burning oil-rings or valves?

compression test reads 140, 195,200,210, do I re build the head and put it back on to test it again or go straight for the rings and redo those, its a a6 block with 175000 miles, and eventually i want to turbo it, so I kind of want to put new rods in now too, but have limited spending money. what makes more sense?

how on earth did you come up with those numbers?

a brank spanking new a6 would have 180 psi at best, how did you get 210?

either your method of testing is wrong, your gauge is messed up or you have a **** load of carbon on your pistons and in your chamber.

I would first of all do a carbon cleaning like seafoam, then redo the test than do a leakdown to see where the air is leaking from check c-speedracing.com how-to's to see how a leakdown is performed!

I would also recommend a leakdown test before you start pulling the engine apart. Every D16A6 that I've ever seen has had bad rings and burned a pile of oil.

put some oil in the 140psi hole and re do the compression check. if the compression goes up, then you got bad rings, if it stays the same its the valves.

the numbers are high cause i have a shaved Y8 head on there, and i tested them all multiple times they read the same still, I'll try that oil trick and see how it goes

after adjusting valves, I got 210 across the board, but still burning tons of oil, with that high of compression I'm assuming rings are fine, and its not leaking, so would I be burning mass amounts of oil only from the valve seals? leakdown is fine.

you never mentioned anything about it burning oil before, so i assume its smoking out the exhaust and thats why you say its burning oil? what color is the smoke? and does it do it all the time, on first start up, only when cold?
